Have you heard that, following complaints by the Race Relations Boards, Whiteways School, is shortly to be renamed Rainbow Coalition College?

I have lived in this area for 20 plus years and have had no problems. I once remonstrated with a man who threw his sandwich wrapper down. He turned round, walked toward me, and I thought oh what have I done? With a sheepish smile he picked up the wrapper and put it in his pocket. I give everyone I meet a smile and most people smile back. Wherever you live there will be some people you wouldn`t want as a neighbour.

(I'm not being racist but... tut tut.)

I've lived here for 6 years, on the next road to whiteways. We love it here. One of the things we love is having a very mixed and friendly community around us. Our neighbours are a mixture of white, asian, and african caribbean people. One thing i DO love is that it's the kind of place that racist types avoid- good riddance to them bringing the neighbourhood down!!

House prices are going up and up here too, the housing stock is pretty good, it's close to lots of local amenities at firvale/ page hall, there's the much improved osgathorpe park, close to lots of buses, only 15 mins by car into town or 10 mins to meadowhall, from there good links to the M1.

Life is good here.

Thank you Craig. Its good to see that Sheffield is a multi cultural city. Only I thought it was until I read some these early threads. I am deeply disgusted by some of the comments that this thread have had. It makes you wonder how backwards some Sheffield people are.
I lived on there from 1975 to 1990 and had some fond memories. Most of my friends then were white and we got on great.
As I was the only few black guys on the street, even though I fitted in and got on with everyone, I went through the torrid times of being called the "N" word but you dont see me ranting on here saying "I dont mean to be racist but white people have been mean to me".
If you dont like foreigners or asians then why dont you live in Iceland. I do not think there is many there. Your great British government has unlocked the doors and welcomed them, so you can not blame the foreigners for coming here, try looking at your lazy selves as in back in the 50's and 60's you did the same thing.
Whiteways was a great area in the past but its not as nice as it used to be. However once and still can hold its head up as one the more promising areas in Sheffield.

There are no flats on Whiteways, you must mean Margate drive!!!!!! Try living on the Manor, all the white people want to nick your car and burgle your house but you dont see the minorities complaining..............

Hi loopylass, I used to live around Whiteways area and have family and friends who have been living there for many years. It is a fantastic area to live especially if you have children. The are many shops close by, schools, there are two parks also and the people who live in the area are wonderful and everyone gets along.

I personally am very disgusted as well by the early remarks that have been made on this thread. Your Q was does anyone know what whiteways area is like? And ignorant people make horrible comments about like...I am not racist but....(I think that speaks for itself)

I personally loved living in the area and love visiting my friends and family who live there. It is a nice environment to live in.

One thing it does lack is decent shops. You have to travel to Firvale for the nearest or the Corner cabin. It definately needs more shops and development round there for the old people.
