(I am not a member of Grow Sheffield, I am just reposting this for everyone's information)

Abundance is a project to harvest the seasonal glut of local fruit like apples, pear and plums. Each year hundreds of fruit trees go unpicked either because people don’t notice them, may not be physically able to harvest them or there are just too many fruits at one time. Abundance is a team of volunteers who are helping harvest city fruit and redistribute the surplus to the community on a non-profit basis. We are looking for volunteers to donate, pick, eat and distribute the fruit. Abundance will be distributing free fresh fruit around the streets of Sheffield from the custom designed mobile fruit unit in the first week of October.

If you have a fruit tree and want help with harvesting please contact us – you will get the first share. If you are interested in becoming an urban harvester or want to help with picking, distribution or processing please get in touch or if you want to help creatively with the fruit unit. Volunteers will have the pleasure of eating fresh, ripe fruit from the tree, finding out more about urban food growing and working alongside enthusiastic people of all ages. Volunteers need to have some free time between August and October. Please also contact us if you would like to receive fresh fruit for your group or neighbourhood

Well done....I don't have any fruit trees on my little balcony...where will you be distributing the fruit????

When I visited my son recently you can see a pear tree dripping with fruit and we searched for a way to get to it but it is in someone's garden, the tree is quite mature and the fruit is high up....I would have settled with windfalls.....

Its a great shame that fruit is wasted by just letting it fall and rot off....so your scheme is a good one, both for our pockets and the environment :D

So are you saying that if the tree is in an accesable garden and has not been picked you lot are just going to tresspass and steal it. I tell you one thing if I catch people on my garden without permission they better get ready for trouble I have already caught one person stealing apples. Its not as though they can just walk down our alley way and get them they had to climb a 5ft fence.

Like it says on the very first line of my post, I AM NOT "GROW SHEFFIELD", I am just passing this info on because I like what they are doing.

To carpetviper, I'm very sure that they have no intention of going where they're not wanted. To Julado, they are still collecting fruit up until this coming weekend (14th).

The OP said nothing of the sort. Good god what is wrong with the people on here?

Next year's harvest is a long way off, but I know a tree or two belonging to a communal organisation that can help out. I'll ask the manager to drop a line. :)

Did you bother to read the OP or did you just feel like an unjustified rant and go for it anyway?

To the OP - I think it's a brilliant idea, but don't have any fruit trees myself. Shall tell friends who do though.

don't pm me! go to growsheffield.com and send them a message instead. Sorry if this seems rude, but for the third time I am not part of the group doing the collecting/distribution of fruit, do not pm me and expect your fruit to get collected!

Have you ever read the book...."How to Win Friends and Influence People"....maybe you should. :D

You have posted a thread and then barked at someone who is offering fruit....and yes it does seem rude. :|

Just got fed up repeating myself. I've now edited the OP to make it even clearer. Sorry for barking. Over and out.
