View Full Version : Leeds Utd - putting Sheffields clubs to shame
Leeds Utd are rampaging up Division 1, and look certain to be promoted as champions.
40 miles down the road, Sheffield (a city slightly bigger) has 2 football clubs
1) one of them gets relegated last season, complains about bad luck etc.... this season, are precariously close to the relegation zone and its only the start of October
2) The other hapless club look certain to get relegated. Lets think... Democracy in Burma by May 2008, or Sheffield Wednesday to avoid relegation in May 2008. Which one would you put your money on?
There is the option of merger, you'll get crowds of 45 - 50000 per game, be playing in the premiership welcoming the likes of Chelsea, Man Utd, instead of Yeovil, Colchester Utd etc.....
Still as long as you Blades get the 6 points from the Owls, nothing else matters.
COME ON LEEDS !!!

It pains me to say it but credit where credit is due.
To come back from a 15 point deficit and be where they are is a credit to the team spirit.
Good luck.
discodown 06-10-2007, 18:00 Leeds Utd are rampaging up Division 1, and look certain to be promoted as champions. You can't say that they are certain to be champions. They've a long way to go. That said, lets not detract from the superb season they are having. Well done leeds
Looking at teletext, the Blades are 2-0 down, which means they will be one point above the drop.
At this rate, both Sheffield clubs could get relegated? bit of a joke for a city of Sheffields size really isn't it?
Come on Sheffield, sort it out.
As things are going Leeds will be in the Premiership before any of the Sheffield clubs. :(
Well done Leeds so far!
we might all hate leeds.... but like all good footie rants its whats played on the pitch that proves to be right.
bobbyblade 06-10-2007, 19:08 absolutely hate em, but hats off to em,
at the mo they will win promotion and they deseve it, not only are they picking up points they do not seem to get carried away with it, just keeping there heads down and getting the points, i think its called true yorkshire grit, its a pity the 2 sheffield teams are lacking the same

Even the Blades appear to have lost their appetite for a fight.
The Owls seemed to lose their appetitefor a fight when they began signing expensive foregn players in the mid 1990's.
Result === its there for all to see.

You might all hate Leeds, but I'm sure you'd rather have a packed Hillsborough playing us, rather than the sub 20,000 gates your getting against the likes of Colchester.
Hate Leeds - But love the derbys :D
Agent Gypo 06-10-2007, 21:08 Well done Leeds. But.... They are in a division lower than the Blades or the pigs....
firecracker 06-10-2007, 22:36 It isn't just Leeds who are putting both Sheffield sides to shame. Barnsley are also putting them to shame, and managed to get a 1-1 draw at Charlton today.

Come the end of the season, we'll all be singing different tunes...

Hope you know that United's start to the season has almost killed their chances of going up. I've just looked at the title odds and United are now 33/1 to win the title, with almost half the league having shorter odds, and Barnsley's odds not radically different at 40/1. And Barnsley were written off as relegation fodder before the season started.

and probably swapping divisions with Wednesday come next Spring.

Yes, a very high possibility I'm afraid!
Nightmare! :(

Since no United fans would follow a merged club, and no Wednesday fans would follow a merged club either, where are these fifty thousand going to come from?
Former fans of Hallam FC, perhaps? :loopy:

Spot on. I'd never go to a merged club. Why on earth would Utd want Wednesday's delapidated ground, players or debt anyway?
a team of blind old ladies would put both teams to shame at the moment.

Since when has anything been decided in October apart from the Baseball world series :suspect::suspect:
The one thing both Sheffield clubs agree on and we never argue about is
WAFHL :hihi::hihi:

Early season it would be Wise not to count your chickens yet.
I thought Leeds was a rugby league city.

So you can't see Wednesday going down?
Wednesday have been punching above their weight since they got promoted, if it wasn't for Kenwyn Jones Wednesday would never have reached the play offs, from where they got promoted.
They will simply be returning to a league more suited to their level.
United.... yes, you may just survive, but you should never have got relegated in the 1st place, you only had to get a draw against Wigan at home to stay up.
Can you imagine an early 1990s United (Dane Whitehouse, Brian Deane etc) being outbattled when it mattered most?
when Wednesday started bringing in foreigners in they started to decline De Boer, Jonk, Sibon all good players but not for a team chasing Europe did well in Championship though . United shouldnt have got relegated but Championship is about right level for them as it is for Wednesday both clubs have lost something they used to have and neither deserve to be in Premiership and on the recent evidence we could have the Sheffield derby in League 1 next season

I am sensing you like United a bit more than wednesday so you are ok in my books :D
No we shouldn't have got relegated and if Hulse hadn't got hurt we would have stayed up but, we didn't, he did and we have to get on with it.
Not sure about wednesday staying up, they are the most inconsistent team these past 2 years than any other team in the history of football, they could win 10 in a row again and then lose 10. If they go down will I shed a tear...Not a chance I will be on here giving back as good as I took when United went down :D

Spot on,
They threw so much money at DiCanio and Carbone and even Reggie Blinker and never really recovered from it.

I THINK you find barnsley are putting sheffield clubs to shame:hihi:
as leeds utd are in a LOWER DIVISION!:hihi:
ARNT leeds still near the bottom of the lge:hihi:

when did we sign de boer
De Bilde sorry was tired last night lol Di Canio and Carbone did well but signed others who just never performed so i decided to support Sheffield FC instead i still look 4 Wednesdays result but thats it id rather support local small club
Spot on,

thats not spot on at all Dicanio was a great player and worth the fee and wages it was dave richards who did not want to jepodise his up and coming job at the f.a so he did not back dicanio after the allcock push
it was danny wilson who bought the likes of de bilde, jonk, sibon the two or 3 scottish crocks on high wages and long contracts that we have never recovered from nowt to do with dicanio, carbone,or regi blinker di canio proved what a great player he was after he left us he and benni were worth paying to watch which cannot be said about many since them
on another note ron atkinson leaving for villa was bad for us too maybe warnock leaving you after last year may be proving the same
Mini_Cooper 09-10-2007, 10:01 ARNT leeds still near the bottom of the lge:hihi:
True, Leeds are in a lower division.
Next season, Leeds will be in a higher division than Wed.
BasilRathbon 09-10-2007, 10:35 There's something very very suspect about the good fortune Leeds are enjoying at the moment. If you look at their wins this season nearly every one has been as a result of a lucky injury time winner. We all know that the people who run Leeds are not in the least bit corrupt. but might it be suggested that the refs might have some motivation for playing on until Leeds score and then immediately blowing the final whistle?
Given that as a result of their lucky streak the 15 point deduction has proved to be no deterrent to other clubs who mismanage their finances, is there not an argument for deducting Leeds United a further 15 points?

Sod it. Lets make it a 150 point deduction.
Its painful to see how well Leeds are doing at the minute. The only consolation we can take from it is that, at least for this season anyway, we're in a higher division than them. The Blades are shocking at the minute though. Robson out!
NEKRO138 09-10-2007, 11:02 They might be doing well on the pitch, but their fans are still letting them down, chasing the ref down the tunnel.
As for Dennis Wise, I don't think his own mother likes him.

He may have been a cartoon character, but Warnock is greatly missed at the Lane.
As for Leeds, I'm a fan, and I despaired at first about Dennis Wise being in charge, but credit to him, he has turned us a round nicely.
Lets just keep our fingers crossed and hope Bates doesn't asset strip when he gets the chance. Don't trust him at all.
