If you have a TV-Out connection on your laptop, its often as simple as connecting this and enabling the TV in your display settings...

If you dont, then its much more complicated....

That depends what connectors are on your laptop and your TV. Quite often laptops have svideo on them, in which case you'd need something like svideo + mini jack (for the sound) to SCART, or svideo to svideo and mini jack to phono (depending on what connections your tv has).

I do this quite often when I pull the video from my HDD camera to my laptop and want to watch it on my TV.

If you've got a modern decent TV there's a good chance that you've also got a 'PC' port on it. Most LCD and plasma TVs appear to have this. I use this port and the external monitor port on my laptop to put whatever's on my screen on to my TV.

I have a TV out port too, but never use it as I lost the cable that came with it and the method's very straight forward using a standard VGA lead and works well.

The only thing with the above method is that it transfers video only and not audio so you have to turn the volume up on your laptop.

My Dell's ATI has TV-Out but it's not a standard s-video cable, it's like one but has more pins ( looks about 9 ). So just be carefull what cable you buy :)
