Which football manager do you think is the best in the world?

I've attached a poll.

I don't see big Sam in that poll Lickszz!.
I like to judge a manager on the recourses he has used and big Sam has had very little compared to the others in your poll.

If i had to choose from the list i'd have to choose Mourinho. He has impressed me no end since his arrival.

Fair point.

He was on my list along with Moyes, Eriksson, Didier Deschamps, Carlo Ancelotti and Fabio Capello but unfortunately the maximum choices for a poll is limited to 10, so I had to draw the line somewhere.

In the end I was forced to stick an 'Other' option to accommodate the rest and try to limit the choices to manager whom have achieved noticeable success.

Vidster, just to confirm.

I notice there is a vote for 'other' - Would I be right to assume that this is your vote for big Sam?

Or has someone else voted for Warnock or Sturrock and are too embarassed to say so?

My vote is not for one manager, but for a few.
Moyes, Allardyce, Moore, Warnock, Fry.....
But Sam is my main choice ;)

Its very hard to compare a manager of, for example, Real Madrid or Arsenal with a manager of Bolton or Southampton.

Also its difficutl to compare someone who's been a manager for 4 or 5 seasons, like Mourinho with someone who's been around 30 years like Ferguson.

In the Premiership I think the best managers currently are Mourinho and Moyes.

But on past form Wenger has probably made the most astute signings, and Ferguson must be doing something right to have won so many premiership titles (despite being one of the nastiest men alive)

I'd like to say Martin O'neill but hes untested at the highest level, ie. top club in top league. I'd like to see him take over at Manu, or did he rule himself out of ever going there? I can't remember

If he did rule himself out I wouldn't believe a word of it, he is fairly ambitious and I think if he was offered a job by ManU, Arsenal, Liverpool or Chelsea he'd definitely take it.

yeah, i guess so, its just the last time ferguson was 'about to reire' i think he said, I could only manage Arsenal or liverpool, or something like that.

I hope his latest offering - Dean Ashton - is as good as him, we need the goals.

I voted Alex Ferguson but then I'm biased. But when I think about it there's no other manager I'd want at United. The treble, the double double and 3 league titles in a row beats Arsene Wenger easily for me.

Ottmar Hitzfeld is a pretty successful manager who I think deserves a mention. I think he's won the European cup twice: once with Dortmund in 1997 and once with Bayern Munich in 2001 plus the German championship 6 times. That's pretty impressive.

Martin O'Neil's done well at Celtic and didn't he win the League Cup with Leicester?

Plus Sam Allardyce continues to do well with a small budget at Bolton. I'd like to see how well Sam could do with a club that's got a bit more money.

I've noticed this season that Fergie has managed to get under Wenger's skin and wind him up.

I have voted for Wenger. I would have voted for Warnock if the poll had only been about managers in the Coca Cola leagues though lol

So far almost everyone has voted for managers that are in the Premiership. There are some quite talented mangers outside the realms of the Premiership. :)

Fergie!
Who else..

Why are people voting for mourinho??
Whats he actually done in england yet?

He has not won a title in england.. he aint won the double/treble and he certainly aint gonna win all 4.

The only reason that Mourinho is in the list is because his team are buying their way to the title... not the managers influence.

If Man Utd had all that cash the same as chelsea- no team on earth could compete.

But thats not really hard to do is it?

Saying that Porto are the best team in portugal and have been for many years... so its not much of an achivement.

Well I said Dario Gradi but I didn't really back up why so here goes.

As well as being the longest serving manager in the football league (I think this is his 22nd year!) here's a snippet from a speech which was said when he recieved an honarary degree from loughborough
university :
(From :http://www.lboro.ac.uk/service/publicity/degree_days/degree_2003/Summer/Gradi.html)

"
It was in June 1983 that Dario took up his present post as manager of Crewe Alexandra. At the time, Crewe were the perennial whipping boys of the old 4th Division, having finished in the bottom three for 4 of the previous 5 seasons. Over the next 20 years, under Dario’s leadership, Crewe have been promoted 4 times and are now 2 divisions higher than when he took over. In addition, the ground has been completely redeveloped and crowds have increased five-fold. In 1998, he was awarded the MBE for his contributions to the sport of football.

Dario’s greatest achievements have been in the nurturing of young football talent. The Crewe Academy, now with extensive new facilities, is a model nationally and internationally. Dario, himself, still watches and coaches the young players. David Platt, the former England captain, was released by Manchester United as a youngster but was taken in by Crewe and developed by Dario Gradi into a player good enough to move on to Aston Villa, Arsenal, Juventus and England and star in the 1990 World Cup. Platt is not the only well-known player to benefit from the system at Crewe. Dario converted Neil Lennon from being a reserve for Manchester City to an international player for Northern Ireland, and now with Celtic. Liverpool’s Danny Murphy is another product of the Crewe system. Others include England internationals Geoff Thomas, Rob Jones, and Seth Johnson, as well as Robbie Savage, Craig Hignett, Rob Whalley, Ashley Ward, and Dele Adebola. When asked if he had a secret to explain such success, Dario said “yes, we practice very hard”! Significantly, only one player in 20 years has asked for a transfer. Dario’s player-centred approach is best summed up in his quote, “we will go where the players take us, not get the players to take us where we want to go”. Dario Gradi, Loughborough graduate, epitomises the Loughborough sport motto, Developing People, Developing Sport.
"

OK - Like any fan I am of course biased, but I think English football and football as a whole could only benefit if there were more managers like Dario.

I've amended the poll accordingly.

I'm very surprised nobody has mentioned Alan Curbishley. He often slips by unnoticed but he has been with Charlton since 1991 and has done a fabulous job.

Wennger &Ferguson is not the best. Many millions they spend to bay many players. The best football manager is the man who had limited possibility to bay player & made a good team.
