Have you ever said LOL out loud in front of anyone instead of laughing?

I am trying to picture it and I wonder if anyone have actually done so.

Has anyone actually slipped a Net Acronyms when speaking to someone who probably doesn't have a clue what it means?

I have heard RTFM and TTFN a number of times but that about it.

Is this a sign of things to come in the future?

I heard TTFN before using the internet.
It was a Jimmy Young-ism.

My kids love using BHF because they've heard their dad say 'bloody hell fire' so often.

I've not actually said LOL (always managed to stop myself short) but I had friend who kept complaining her husband was laughing at her in texts at the worst times.

She got particularly upset when he sent her the text message :

I'm at the Cemetary now - will be at the grave soon LOL.

Turned out he wasn't laughing - the nugget thought LOL stood for lots of love...

Hmm, I always thought it came from Winnie the Pooh, as Tigger has always said TTFN!!

Me and my son often indulge in this kind of banter. LOL, ROFLMAO, etc. It gets us through our day.

It's a short cut way of acknowledging a joke, and without the painful side-effects of your sides aching.

For example: I will say something like: "Why go to the boozer or play golf, when you can go to one of Basil's dos?" to which my son will reply:

'LOL'.

Lol!!

I have never actually said it, but have almost said it, very very often.

I've said LOL, ROFL, LMAO when in the company of others who do. I've also been known to accidentally pronounce IMHO, ATM and AFAIK around, for instance, my grandmother, who glazes over.

When in groups, I have known friends and aquaintances use phrases like 'STFU, n00b' and 'WTF? OMFG!' in spoken conversation. Can get quite cryptic quite fast :)

As i am suffering from a 'very' bad chesty cough i find it very difficult to laugh without coughing for England! So when Pauly says something funny i have to tell him 'I'm laughing' or say 'LOL' so he knows i'm not ignoring him or just not seeing the funny side... on ocassions tho it hasnt worked... as by doing this i've ended up making myself laugh... an coughing (barking) for half hour :o not good... as it can be very painful

'I'm laughin!' :P LOL!!!
