It's such a quiet time of year in the garden/lottie but one of my favourite. I love the way things start to die back and you're left with the 'bare bones' (crikey, not literally I hope - we do live below the cemetry!) of the space. Summer sometimes feels a bit like a losing battle!

So, what's everyones plans for this winter? We use the time to dig a lot, before the ground gets too frosty or like a quagmire and also will be getting some garlic in sooner this year than last.

Then it's all the other structural stuff: carry on building the paths; move the polytunnel and compost bins to their new areas (and so prepare those areas); trips to the tip or burning; preparing our first hot bed; making first raised beds for the carrots (damn the carrots and parsnips I WILL have some next year); painting and clearing out the shed...and that's just the lottie. Don't even start on the rubble yard at home.

Obviously these activities are spread around obligatory cups of tea/hot chocolate :D

We have soooo much to do. I'm currently trying to get a path down to the bottom of our allotment! We and our neighbours are in the same hedged space so I'm trying to distinguish between the two! From there, it'll be more clearing and moving all the rubbish to a compost area at the bottom. Theeen, digging, then making nice rotovation zones. I'm aiming to be done for spring!

we have already cleared a lot of our plots, moved the green house and planted potatoes and carrots for christmas. Also got in some overwintering peas, onions and garlic as well as cabbage and hopefully Ive still got time to get some caulis in.
As for my garden at home the less said about that the better:hihi:

What type of spuds can you put in at this time of year? do they not just rot?

I tend to leave the garden messy - incredibly important for insects as they hibernate under leaves, twigs and such.

So it will be general jobs like planting bulbs, trimming things back like climbers at the appropriate times (waiting for the honeysuckle and passionflower to stop flowering!) and any other odd jobs I need to do. Got some Cyclamen I need to plant but everything seems to just be hanging on in there and I'm getting tired of waiting for them to die so I can free a pot up!!

Also need to sort a trellis out for the back garden, we had a massive solanum that was taking over everyone's garden. That's been cut back to nothing because it was just far too big... Only down side is the neighbours behind us are higher and their kids keep on trying to climb over the fence onto our shed... The fence on our side looks to be 5ft but because they're raised it's only 3/4ft. So yeah, get that up because I don't appreciate their kids trying to climb onto the shed or throwing balls at the birds and squirrels
Then to get a fast growing climber to cover it quickly to block them out! hehe
