View Full Version : Are there any Speedway fans on here?
Yogi Bear 03-10-2007, 21:16 Hi ,I am Yogi Bear from Middlesbrough another steel making town I support the Redcar Bears. I came across this site whilst looking on another website. The Redcar speedway track is built on the former Cargo Fleet Steelworks site. I'd like to send my solidarity to your City following the floods.
Here is a clip of Chris Harris at this years British Grand Prix

Is there any Sheffield Tigers fans on this website?
Yogi Bear 05-10-2007, 09:49 No takers , My final post on the subject unless there's a reply. I see the Sheffield Tigers had a fantastic win last night against Kings Lynn. Did anyone go to watch it?
Hi Yogi, I'm a fan and I drove all the way to Lynn to watch the Tigers ride. It was a good meeting if a little controversial. When Chris won this June I lost my voice for 3 days.

The track was terrible !
3 5-1's for the home team .... in the 1st 3 heats it looked bad news. Here's to Thurs bring it on! :P
Me and Mr Gwyneth like Speedway too
Yogi Bear 14-10-2007, 17:58 Nice to hear from you, it must have been great getting one over on Kings Lynn, good luck against Rye House.:)
Thanks Yogi, unfortunately this is one of the few away meetings I wont be able to get to. I will have to wait for text updates from a friend. Hope we can pull it off and win the trophy.
Yogi Bear 15-10-2007, 09:21 Hi Anne, Do the Tigers have a live updates section for matches on their supporters website? I'm sure they will. This is a link to the Bears away match updates. I followed the result last night between the Newcastle Diamonds and the Bears [ it was a draw ]
http://redcarbears.co.uk/index.php?board=9.0
I followed this heat by heat [ I missed a few and then caught up ] whilst doing other things.
There's also the national speedway updates . Anyway once more good luck.
Here's some great Speedway racing click and enjoy
What a race between Olsen, Mauger and Gordon Kennett 1978 World Final at Wembley. Mauger nudges the tapes 3-4 times to psche the others

I think home and away support is called for.

Here's to Thursday!
Thanks guys, but I wont be near a computer. I'm off on holiday.

Thank you! We haven't been to Sheffield Speedway together yet (Poor show as we've been together 10 years!) but go to Scunthorpe as often as possible, unfortunatly this coinsides with a trip to the in laws :suspect:
Yogi Bear 16-10-2007, 18:43 Gwyneth, Josh Auty rides out of his 16 year old skin for Redcar each week, what is he and Tai Woffendon like around Normanby Rd? And young Joe Haines had a spell for the Cleveland Bays last season aged 15.
Congrats on Scunny winning the Conference.
anyone remember ivan mauger nearly causing a riot at owlerton in 78 ?
Yogi Bear 17-10-2007, 10:39 This is an awesome race by Joe Screen a must see

We go to Scunthorpe most Sundays too. Josh is fantastic around Normanby Road but Tai just has that edge to him at the moment. Baring any serious injuries there looks to be big things around the corner for both of them. I didnt start going to Owlerton until I was about 15 so I dont remember Ivan Mauger riding at all. I was more interested in Martin Hagon at that time.
Yogi Bear 17-10-2007, 19:44 Here is a link to the Garry Stead website some people may find this distressing as it shows the crash that paralysed him.

You can send a personal message to him.

Tai is fantastic and to my knowledge holds the track record for fastest time. Josh too is excellent and I have heard him being refered to as "Jet Powered Auty" it's easy to see why!!

Will you be there next Sunday (Not this Sunday but next) Thats when we'll next be there!
We tend to go on the back straight/second bend and if theres a meeting, we are usually there. Its coming to the end and you've got to get as many meetings in as possible.
Yogi Bear 19-10-2007, 09:14 I see the Tigers won by 51-42 a pretty close scoreline what was the match like?

Meeting delayed by 10 minutes...ques are huge outside.
Track is racebale, weather is bearable and the Rye mafia taken up the 1st bend!
Sheffield won the toss and take gates 1 & 3
Heat 1 - Brilliant team riding by Ashworth to keep the 5-1, Ekberg gave it a right go!
Heat 2 - Cockle fell on bend 3 lap 1 when he was third, re-mounted then gave up on last lap!
Heat 3 - Cooper and Woffinden gated, Compton came round them entering bend 2 then slowed to team ride. Tai went round them on bend two lap two but Compton saw him coming and pulled away!
Heat 4 - Boxall jumped the start and got away with it, Parsons went round Roynon on bend 2 lap 1, Roynon passed back bend 4 lap 1.
Heat 5 - Race stopped, un satisfactory start - all 4 back!
Ekberg under Cooper bend two lap one, Cooper's bike wouldn't pull him out of bed! Shadders has deafened Squall with his whistle! ;D
Heat 6 - Ashworth was outstanding, spent more time looking backwards then forwards.
Heat 7- Cockle is in for Frampton
Race stopped, Allen fell bend 3 lap 1 whilst third, just like Shadders predicted!
**Allen still down and ambulance is now on track**
Heat 8 - Frampton in for Cockle
Roynon almost went round Frampton bend 2 lap 4 and nearly came off.
Heat 9 - Roynon in for Bowen
Boxall had an EF on start of lap 2 when in 2nd. Roynon passed Cooper on bend 4 lap 1.
Heat 10 - Woffinden put Wilson under alot of pressure in the last two laps. **Squall thinks Allen has been withdrawn from the meeting but nothing has been confirmed yet**
Heat 11 - Ekberg on a tatical
Brilliant race, front three for the first lap, then Parsons and Neath for the next two laps. Fantastic speedway!
Heat 12 - Roynon in for Bowen. Cockle missed the 2 minutes and now is replaced by Frampton
Woffinden nipped Compton against the fence on backstraight lap 1. Great 4 lap battle between Roynon and Frampton. Woffinden was celebrating like a world champion and fell off!!
Heat 13 - Cracking race between Parsons and Boxall, passing and repassing. Parsons chain went as he crossed the line and he came off.
Heat 14 - Roynon passed Frampton exiting bend 2 lap 1
Heat 15 - Sheffield win the toss and take 1 & 3.
Compton, Ashworth, Ekberg, Woffinden
Ekberg went into tapes and now going off 15 metres
Ekberg had an EF on bend 1 lap 3
Sheffield = 51
1. Ricky Ashworth - 2', 2', 3, 3, 2' = 12+3
2. Ben Wilson - 3, 3, 3, 2' = 11+1
3. Andre Compton - 3, 3, 3, 2, 3 = 14
4. Paul Cooper - 1, 0, 1, 0 = 2
5. Joel Parsons - 1, 2, 2, 1 = 6
6. Jordan Frampton - 2, 1, 0, 0, 2 = 5
7. James Cockle - F, 0, 1', = 1+1
Rye House = 42
1. Stefan Ekberg - 1, 2, 6^, 2, EF = 11
2. Chris Neath - 0, 1', 2, 1, = 4+1
3. Tai Woffinden - 2, 3, 1, 3, 1 = 10
4. Tommy Allen - 0, EX, 1 = 1
5. Steve Boxall - 3, 1, EF, 0 = 4
6. Luke Bowen - 1, 0, 0 = 1
7. Adam Roynon - 3, 2', 0, 2, 1, 3 = 11+1
Looking at the results The tigers Parsons, Frampton and Cockle scored 12+1
Rye house Boxall, Bowen and Roynon scored 16+1
Neath probably did us a favour with 4+1 but Coop had a tough night with only 2pts
*Thanks to eveyone @ speedwayupdates for the match report
Am i invisible? ;)
Yogi Bear 19-10-2007, 17:35 Thanks for that it must have been exciting. Gwyneth and Anne sadly Josh broke a bone in his foot last night at Redcar in the Silver Helmet. Jason Lyons fell in his first race under pressure from two riders going either side of him, unfortunately Josh caught Jasons bike and somersaulted over his handle bars.
It was a great night with Peter Karlsson of Wolverhampton winning with 15 points second was Chris Holder 13 and third was Daniel Nermark with 11.
Some promising Scandinavians rode last night watch out for these names.
Lundvig Lindgren Sweden, Casper Wortman and Nicholai Klindt both Danish.
Yogi Bear 22-10-2007, 19:10 Commiserations to Tigers fans but congrats to Scunny fans.
