View Full Version : Robin Hood pub - Stannington (Little Matlock)
theripsaw 03-10-2007, 11:38 Anybody have any views on this place? Wondered whether its worth checking out for food and a few beers?
Its certainly off the beaten track - does it ever get busy?
Hi rip
I went last year and it did a really nice carvery. Not an outstanding, but a reasonable collection of beers.
It was quite busy when I was in there but not overly.
It is quite oldy-worldy inside. Nice for a pint and a pie!
But your car will take a battering on the roads trying to get there.
rosieparker 03-10-2007, 11:54 We called in for a drink a few weeks ago and decided to stay for a meal we really enjoyed it. Not too expensive and really nice food and service.
Flightlevel 03-10-2007, 12:53 I haven't eaten there but the it's worth a trip for the beer. 3 or 4 handpumps on serving Bradfield Brewery beers and a couple of others (Sheffield Brewery too I seem to recall). Not bad to sit outside if the weather is decent, the beer garden could do with a little spruce up though. Interesting building, clearly part of the Stannington of old. Worth a visit.
I eat here quite often and the food is lovley, definatly worth a visit.
hillsbro 03-10-2007, 13:32 The last time I went in the Robin Hood was in 1966. Sounds like I ought to go back and have a meal there! We always called it "The Rock" - this was its original 1804 name, due to the cellars having been literally cut out of the rock.
Top place - well worth a trip.

Yeah that's the only thing that dissappoints me, most Pubs at least do Scampi and chips, Robin Hood doesn't, not even when I really suck up to Keely! :(

NEKRO138 04-10-2007, 15:31 Yeah, I went about a week ago and the I was pleasantly surprised by the food. I expected generic pub food. And to an extent it is, but it's done to a good level. Good prices and lovely food. I liked the pub itself too. And the staff were friendly.
They have a website - www.robinhoodloxley.co.uk
purdyamos 04-10-2007, 19:22 I have very fond memories of the Robin Hood. I was at Loxley College (RIP) and we did extensive projects on the Sheffield Flood around Little Matlock, and our work was exhibited in the pub for the 140th anniversary. I have no idea what the food etc is like now, but the place has got great character and history. There is a steep cobbled path leading down to the river and Little Matock itself which is a lovely and dramatic stroll - with a monster climb back up the cliff again. Worth it though, so you can appreciate the beautiful setting.
