Toothpaste maybe? Or do they do dentastix for cats? None of ours have ever liked any treats except for cat nip drops so I don't bother looking.

Get her on Logic gel - many cats will actually lick it off the back of your hand - it's a tooth gel that breaks down the enzymes and plaque-forming nasties which are usually there if your cat has bad breath. Much more palateable than trying to brush emily's teeth and recommended by many vets- you can buy it online from vet-medic.co.uk, caninechemists. co.uk and many others about £6 a tube but it will last ages.

gingivitis is affecting more cats at a much earlier age now - even juveniles like emily, so if there's any indication of bad breath, this is something to watch for- Logic is a good product from keeping plaque at bay.

get her checked out at the vets.
if it's gum diesase it's really important to catch it early.

Our 4 yr old tabby and white had awful gum disease and needed anti - inflams and all her teeth out. Fortunately they came out in one op, and she made swift recovery and is much happier cat. Her tongue often sticks out a bit as as her teeth don't hold it in, but it's cute. She manages to eat dry complete cat food , in fact has finally rounded out nicely

The vet thought it was caused by a virus she'd contracted as a tiny kitten. We got her and littermate Jasper from rescue.

she used to have biscuit breath which was cute at first, but recently its become a bit stronger! I suppose it doesnt help that she's started having the odd wet meal now and then!

HI Katkin. When my dogs had their injections the other day he checked their teeth aswel, he said they were really clean but to start using 'logic toothpaste' to prevent iplaque and to get them used to it. I bought some for £8.57 from the vet! Expensive but should last a while. I have used it yet so I hope they like it :hihi:

The wet food won't be helping the breath keely- if you're used to her breath on biscuits that in itself will make a big difference.

But yes- get her on a teeth cleaning regime like Logic.

It's apparently quite palateable and dead easy to administer (dobermutt and 2 of our cats will actually lick it off the back of my hand- Ashia n Amber dont but if I put a bit on their paws or on the front of their teeth, they dont object). If you go to any of the bigger dog shows or cat shows the vet pharmacy stands often sell it cheaper than online (buy 2 get one free sort of thing) so def cheaper than buying from the vets. I tried the teeth brushing thing but it just stressed the cats out - gel is much easier.

My cat's breath is OK, but the vet said dog had some plaque that might cause problems eventually. I couldn't go down the toothpaste route - she'd have had a fit!

But I found some great stuff called Plaque Off from here http://animalmedicines.co.uk/home.php?cat=100 and started using it. Next check up, the vet said dog's teeth were lovely!

I believe you can use it for cats as well and, as you mix it in with the food, they don't seem to notice.

well emilys toothpaste arrived today and she wasnt having any!
I put it on my finger, finally managed to get abit near her mouth and she turns to flee resulting in a toothpasty tail!

the wet food isnt just giving her bad breath, shes got a very bad bottom too, my hall stinks of runny poo!! poor baby!

we used to use one with Ailsa and the cats and they are a good idea - but we just give them the logic direct now, less stress.

Dont give up on the Logic- it's one of the best dental hygiene products out and it will be worth you making sure she gets logic'd at least once a week in the long run because cats are renowned for getting dental disease and it appears to be starting earlier and earlier - probably because so many are fed on a wholly or mostly wetfood diet.

Amber hates having her teeth or mouth interfered with, but she needs it doing so I usually get a little blob of logic on my finger before I pick her up- run it gently along the front of her teeth before she even realises what I'm doing, n put her down again. Result. You dont need to spend a lot of time doing it- just getting it into her mouth is enough- it will naturally disperse and collect arounnd the gums and do its job.

Try her on James Wellbeloved, Burns or a Royal Canin dry food - you can usually get a sample from Pets at Home (but not Burns- do a web search and you can ask for free samples from Burns-pet-nutrition.co.uk ) Find one she likes and gradually move her over to it from her current food- it will do her a lot of good in the long run and end the runny poo trails!

Idea for you- if you absolutely adore cats and want to see all the latest gadgets and gizmos, go to the NEC on Sat 17th Nov -
http://www.supremecatshow.org/
it's the annual Supreme Cat Show-we go every year to see all the fabulous breeds and non-breeds being shown , plus talk to breeders and societies and to buy stacks of cat food and other cat supplies at knock-down prices.

That way, you can try out all sorts of dired food alterantives and find one Emily will really enjoy- oh most give away free samples too...We love it and wont miss it- Last year, we spent about £100 on various foods and it lasted us months (bearing in mind we had 5 cats then and 6 plus 4 2-day old kittens now).
