Does anyone remember this great "hippie" shop where Pizza place is now, situated near where the ring road crosses Glossop Road? Trying to find some pix of it and cant find any.
This was a superb and enormous shop on about 3 levels, the ground floor was all manner of clothing from afghan coats to indian rugs, and upstairs there was a small cafe at one point.
I worked there for a while in 1980 I think it was......what a wonderful atmosphere and always had that fantastic smell of incense.

Whenever I smell incense, it immediately makes me think of BIABH. Without a doubt, this was one of the most amazing shops Sheffield has ever had - huge and labyrinthine, with little cosy corners packed with trinkets and bits and pieces from across Asia.

The guy who owned it previously had a couple of much smaller shops at Nether Green. One was called Freewheelin', which stocked smaller gifts and stuff like that. Across the road was a shop called Another Side which seemed to be mostly Indian-type clothing and perfume oils.

After BIABH, he opened The Futon Shop on Devonshire Street, which I believe is still there. A few years ago I remember they had some big fat photo albums on display that were full of old pics from Bringing It All Back Home and the other shops. Maybe you could try contacting them goldenfleece - see if they've got any pics they could send you.

(And of course, his first 3 shops were all named after Bob Dylan albums...)

Many thanks will do that indeed. Ah, many happy hours in there. There has never been anything quite like that labyrinth of treasures in Sheffield.........

It was a brilliant shop, full of stuff plundered from other cultures by travelling hippies (the shock troops of the tourist industry).

I think it transformed into The Futon Shop and relocated just down the road to Division Street where they still trade.

Yes, I remember this shop!!! I lived on Glossop Road, above the Chocolate Soldier shop in the early 80s... When I had my ears pierced, i went there to get all kinds of beads, silver wire and bits and pieces... I still think I have some of my "creations" somewhere.... :suspect: :hihi: :hihi:

OMG

My OH and I were talking about this just the other day!!! Although we couldn't remember the name of it, and we didn't know each other at the time, we reminised <sp> about that place and the unforgetable aroma lol

It was almost like getting lost ....... absolutely loved the place :)

They always had Van Morrison or Little Feet playing. They sold some high quality stuff too, much better than the bland chain shops we get in the city centre now.

I suppose Rare and Racy is an unusual survivor of that time.
