Hi
We have a Kitten which was originally a farm kitten, and will soon be in need of it's jabs and neutering, firstly can anyone give me an idea of the cost involved, and secondly reccomend a good Vet in the north Sheffield area.

Thanks for reading

I think it's about 60 quid for it all (if I remember rightly) and then leukemia jab and microchipping cost extra. I use highfields on london road, they seem ok...

at crookes we paid £72 (or near enough) for her full set of jabs
think its around £45 for her neutering
no idea how much for her microchipping
£! for the worming sachets etc etc

Microchipping tends to be about £18-£20 but sometimes there are special offers on. about £35-£40 sounds about right for the usual jabs and a further £35-£50 for neutering depending where you go. Bear in mind that some vets also like to charge a consultation fee on top of this...

Broomhill where I take mine, (from what I recall) is...

£45 full course of vaccinations
£15 microchipping
£30 castration

I'm not entirely sure if they charge more for the leukaemia jab or whether it's included in the full set of jabs... I can find out for you if you like :)

I'm sure thats what it is... the only one I'm dubious as to whether I may have incorrectly is the castration price but I'm sure I looked it up recently...

Usually goes on weight and quantity of medication they have to administer

Yep - but as a (usually accurate) estimate, I'm sure it's down as £30 on the price list...

I think ove been wripped off!! and the receptionist at our vets needs to learn to smile, or atleast pretend to be happy!

Spaying is more expensive than castration isnt it as its a more involved op?

Ive just booked my kitten in for his neuter, and she said it costs £42 for the operation, the you have to pay for anesthetic and medication... so in the end it will cost between £100 - £150.

I thought that was a little high, isn't it?!

At Spires it is only £18 for both jabs for a kitten but if you wanted the leukemia one including it would be £38 all together. Neutering for a male cat is £20 and £26 for a female and Ian is a great vet, showed us how to inject our own rescued cat with antibotics, sold us the needles and a bottle which worked out a lot cheaper than taken her back to him every time she needed treating

Hi, can I just take Bailey here for his neutering and use my normal vets for jabs etc?

Many thanks

Hi Crosser,

Broomhill Vets charge:
£45 for full set of jabs (pay on first visit, the nothing to pay 2nd visit) + £30 per yearly booster
£15 microchipping
£30 castration (male)
£45 spay (female)

£23.50 for a consultation - worming, flea and diet consultations are free of charge.

The nice thing about Broomhill is they are only a small practice and being relatively new, have plenty of time for their clients and won't rush an animal that's not happy, the vet always feeds animals treats when they first enter and then after any treatment!

Hope this helps :)

To get treatment you must register and when you register your pet with a vets, they will contact the previous vet for a clinical history of the animal.

So really your registration is moved, but then you can re-register with your previous vets... if that makes sense?

Hi yes that isn't a problem. I am registered with 3 different vets. Spires is quite a way for me to travel so if I need something doing urgently I go to the Grindleford branch of the Hunters bar vets, But if it's things like boosters for the cats or dog which I only pay £6 -£8 for I go to Spires. It's one of the cheapest vets around, I shouldn't be telling people that really, it's busy enough when I go down but Ian is a really good vet so I like going there.

Spires is great but too far for us and it'd only stress the felines out if we took them there. Arnie is due to be neutered in the next 2-4 weeks and I'm pondering where to take him - we're registered with Park Vets at Millhouses. His full vaccs cost £55, Microchipping £20. PS I'm having to whisper because he's sitting beside me and he hasn't been told about the big snip yet...

Hallam vets in Hilsborough charge £45 for neutering and £54 for speying.

Poor little mite but I'm sure he will get spoilt rotten by you when he comes back :) I saw an advert on tv a few days ago from vets4pets, I think I remember them saying they do booster vaccs for £10 and a full set of kittens for £20 or £10 per injection as I think they said. It might be worth you phoning them to check on their neutering cost Kat. It seemed pretty reasonable but I've never used them so can't really comment on what they are like. Hope it helps.

edit oops sorry didn't see this post on the 2nd page til after I'd posted. But at least I'm not imagining things, I thought it was pretty strange them putting an advert on the telly about it at the time, but there you go Lain saw it too :)
