View Full Version : Has anyone ever had a meaningful conversation in a lift?
Sam Miguel 14-01-2005, 21:08 Just wondered. One of my life-ambitions is to meet somone in a lift who I want to get to know better.
I think the nearest I ever got was when me and a bloke from Barnsley got off the same lift on 'G' floor in the Royal Hallamshire in April 1999.
We exchanged words about the events in Kosovo and then went our seperate ways.
That was it.
Have I made a wrong assumption?
Are you actually female, Sam? :suspect:
Or is that another assumption? :hihi:
I hate lifts because I'm scared they'll break down and trap me, but when I do go in them and there are others in it's usually just people looking uncomfortable and trying to avoid eye contact, and other than the "which floor do you want?" question I've never come across any conversation between strangers. Then again, like I said, I don't like using them.

(Dunno what they call it these days) They used to stick just short of the floors regularly. One day, I (5' female) was stuck in the lift with half a dozen 6' (ish) engineering students. I seemed to be the only one who knew you could prize the doors open - and just in time - some of them were beginning to panic :hihi:

Sam Miguel 14-01-2005, 22:22 Nah, you daft bugger. Man I am.
I am doing a psychogical survey into 'advanced liftspeak' and delving into the hypothesis that such a thing actually exists.
Fascinating.

Sam Miguel 14-01-2005, 22:25 And everyone explores the ceiling and everyone's shoes. And if it jolts someone makes some statement about.... yawn, yawn.
And everyone keeps their arms tightly at their sides looking like nervous penguins.
