View Full Version : Chat programs - Habbo Hotel
What chat programs do you use and why?
Are you on the said program often?
I use to use ICQ a lot but now I use it about 10 mins per 6 months.
MSN is limited to no more than 30 mins in any one week mainly for work use.
I've stumbled on this little gem but I have not said a single word yet!
Why? I'm busy walking around the place to even talk.
Take a look at http://www.habbohotel.com/habbo/en/
8) Habbo Hotel is full of little kids sending viruses to each other.
I used to go in IRCQ Chatrooms but it was a script war all the time.
These days i stick to MSN Messenger 6.0
Nutronic 29-08-2003, 20:27 Yeah thats the prob with Habbo Hotel but it does have its older generations (like me) on there im called 5teve-Quinn gizza shout if yer work out how to send a message :P
Also im a expert on Habbo, I was once a moderator they call a HOBBA but got fed up of it.....
IRC is a good thing I used to use but not sure how to get files from someone, even tho its something apparently easy to do getting music files etc...
MSN is something I use all the time and awaiting for 6.1 out soon!!! and then premium will be out soon.
Anyway ICQ is rubbish!!*
thats it!
*personal opinion.
I use MSN and ICQ. I have used ICQ since 1998, it was very popular back then but has since somewhat died. I do think that both ICQ and MSN could learn things from each other, they both have features that I like.

Does anyone use Trillian? It lets you access ICQ/MSN/AOL contacts from one programme, but I heard there were security issues?

I used to and no they are no security issues, the way i look at it is if ur account ends in @hotmail.com @msn.com or even @yahoo.co.uk or @yahoo.com that is one BIG security issue:lol:
Habbo Hotel is now available on a co.uk format specifically targeted for UK kids I suppose!!
My kids have asked to register but reading the earlier views of Habbo on this thread I am a little sceptical!!
I realise this thread I am resurrecting is fairly old, so have people's opinions changed??? Do other forum users use this or have children or mates who use it??
Feedback/Opinions would be appreciated!!

I used to use Habbo (back int day), never had any trouble and it's an interesting format. The moderators are pretty good and no bad language gets through (e.g. f*cking hell automatically comes through as bobbaking hell, and sh*t comes through as just plain bobba!).
Vidster is Trillian ''entertaining for kids'' as well as having a chat feature??
Do you regard it as being suitable for kids aged 11/12??
I am just uneasy with the kids making the transition from MSN/Skype...chatting to established contacts to.... well chatting to strangers....
:help:
noseyrosie - would you let your kids use it then?? I mean....if you had some...
:hihi:

My 12 year old was on it last year, but to be honest, he quickly tired of it (Mind you, Halo 2 played a part in that as well ;) ) If they do go on it, beware of the 'mum, can I buy credits' line. I think it was £1 for 10 credits to get virtual furniture and posters for rooms.
I checked it out before he went on, and it seemed pretty safe, lots of his mates were playing as well, so they were in a virtual group. Like anything online, it probably has people pretending to be something they're not, :( though it is pretty well moderated.
I use MSN mainly, I refuse to allow AOL Messenger anywhere near my computer for the sheer fact that it's made by AOhell...
I used to use ICQ regularly back when I was in my little Cousin's clan for Quake 2 on the PC, but to be honest I found it used too much in the way of system resources which slowed my PC down considerably :(
I also use Skype regularly for talking to my Brother in London.. There was a thread about Skype in computer and tech chat last week I think.
beansforyou 12-10-2005, 20:05 HI
When I first got on the net years ago I used to use Worlds http://www.worlds.com
Again its another place where you spend so long wandering around and changing your avatar you don't get to speaking to other people much
I also like the fact that everyone starts off as a Penguin, it makes you go and explore and find different outfits ~ then you can snigger at the other penguins...
Anyone else with views specifically related to Habbo Hotel ???
Thanks
I use AIM (5.5.3598ca -- BEST VERSION OF THE AIM SERIES) and MIRC (Dont use it much though)
I also have VOIPERIZED (www.voiperized.com),a wonderfull little program for VOIP chat, its about 500k and sounds pretty good!!
I have an ICQ account and i used to use it but i got rid of that progee and stick to AIM mostly...
Eric_Collins 29-10-2007, 06:59 HABBO IS A PC KILLER
my lass went on it, the PC was dead after 30mins of being on there. She also went on Habbo on my sisters PC and that sufferd the same event.
Habbo needs removing from the Net, the way i sorted it after a format and fresh install what to BAN Habbo's web adress in Internet Explorer.
you may think errr it's his PC , but the PC was ok for 1year before hand and although was on the net was realy only for games. As soon as Habbo was on Internet explorer wouldn't open, firefox would give BSOD and then as soon as the PC was rebooted i got message 'Missing NTDL' and then the PC was Bricked. The sisters sufferd the same fate after 30mins of Haboo action by the same user, so to me seems alittle to close not to be haboo's fault.
I checked out the HABBO site, looks childish and stupid :D
