Alcohol Driving Limit ?
How many units of alcohol are you allowed, to be still under the legal limit to be driving? Is it about 3/ 4 units ? (1.5 / 2 pints)
:?

It depends on your size, as it is the amount of alcohol in your bloodstream that is used. . The current drink-drive limit in the UK is 80mg blood per 100ml blood, which translates to 35mg alcohol per litre of breath
(from some website or another)

It should be none. If you know you're going to drive, don't drink.

You get less time in prison killing someone while drunk driving then just killing someone the law is an ass

Yeah. If you hate someone and kill them with a knife or a gun you (are supposed to) get life.

But, down a bottle of whisky and run them over and you get a few years at worst, or a fine and a ban at 'best'.

I was unfortunate enough to knock someone over last October.

He was bladdered and ran straight out from a pub straight into my windscreen. He damaged my bonnet, smashed the whole windscreen, scratched down one side of the car and broke my wing mirror.

I had to pay out for the repairs as I didn't want to lose my no claims. It cost me over £150.

I didn't get done because it wasn't my fault. Although I was absolutly traumatised, had to spend my friday night in a police station being breathalised and questioned.

The lad I knocked over carried on around town drinking with his mates.

I received no money from him or an apology.

In my opinion this lad should have at least been made to pay for the damage he caused.

You can bet your bottom dollar had it been my fault I would have ended up in court, paying costs, fines etc....

Drink driving is totally unacceptable and people should be named and shamed if convicted and sentenced far heavily if they kill. You may say this is harsh, but I'm speaking about something that has effected me twice in my 27 years on this planet. I lost a close family recently cos I young foolish driver thought he could handle 7 pints, took to the roads and drove on the wrong side of the road and collided with the motorcycle that my friend was travelling on. The foolish driver is now doing 5 years. I mean, 5 years for taking somes life, where's the justice in that????????

The worst thing is DD, someone who is such a moron to drink and drive like that will have no sense or remorse or guilt, so he will be out in 2.5 years and forget about it.

I had a dog run out on me back in the early 90's and I still can't forget it.

Blood ethanol level limits for driving in California are identical to UK, maybe this chart will help.http://www.california-drunkdriving.org/levels/art/drink_chart.jpg

Basically if you're a fat basta'd (above 220lbs/16 stone), you'll probably get away with 5 cans of lager. If you're a nice petite lady, two glasses of wine is risky.

My advice is don't drink anything if you're going to drive because even a small alcoholic drink contains a massive amount of the drug and will impair driving skills.

1 glass wine = 16 grams alchohol.

Most drugs are taken in milligram (thousanth gram) quantities.

Try taking 16 grams of any drug you buy over the counter or are prescribed and you will probably wind up dead.

Anyone who drinks and drives is a full weight, first class, selfish, arrogant, chromium plated, stupid Idiot, and deserve to have their driving licence taken away for the rest of their life. They are not responsible and should not be allowed behind a steering wheel ever.

It is just as bad as shooting, knifing, or bludgening someone to death, there is no excuse at all for their actions and should be punished for all time. Because they cannot be trusted, as they know what they are doing and do not care.

I'll go along with that one, Hal.

Why not take their cars off them too? As they are losing their licence why do they need their car? It would be a far bigger dis-incentive if you lost your car for the same period of time for which you lost your licence. It would also discourage anyone from driving w/o a licence if they had lost it and had no car. IMMHO.

apparently, the law says i can have a few and drive...people can rant and rave all they like, but we're not all god fearing robots. i'll try and avoid ploughing into anything at the best of times.

The trouble is that alcohol affects each person differently. Plus, have a pint on an empty stomach or if you are on pills and it will have a stronger affect and affect your judgement and reflexes.

You might kill someone but be under the limit, it doesn't make it right.

When I did the National Licencee Certificate to become a licencee of a pub this was all part of the exam. In a nutshell it is recognised that there is no cut off point and everyone truly is different. There is no hard and fast rule as to how much you can have to drink as it all depends on your frame, whether you have eaten, your health, etc.

The true answer would be to not drink and drive at all.

Another one of those taboo subjects where people are afraid to speaker there minds.

I think the limit is about right. Two pints is the "mark" I go by on the rare occasions that I have a drink whilst driving.

I admit that in my youth I probably drove (on one or two occasions) whilst over the limit, which I now find embarressing. However, to compare me to a cold blooded murderer or suggest I should be banned from driving for life is way OTT. Don't get me wrong, drink driving is wrong but comparing an act of poor judgement/selfishness with an act of evil is simply ridiculous.

Anyway... even after a couple of pints I can still drive better than a women or some old git... joke;) :) .

Another point to be made is what about the next morning.... ?
A mate of ours went out down town and had a 'few' beers.... he was by no means 'plastered' as I was with him and he was just very merry. He left town in a cab at 11.15pm........ went to work next morning at 10am and was pulled and breath tested. He was over the limit - and obviously was banned, fined etc. My point to this waffling is that you need to be so very aware if you are driving the next day - He felt fine and odviously though he would be ok but clearly wasn't. Now he doesn't even touch a drink - even when not driving if he know's it is work the next day.
Personally I never even have one as I mentioned before in the thread, just something to think about I thought...

As recent figures have shown people just don't seem to be getting the message. Despite stronger advertising campaigns the number people caught driving while over the limit continues to rise.

The limit is 1 pint of normal strength lager, eg. Carling, Fosters Carlsberg. You'd probably be lucky to get away with driving after a pint of Stella or Kronenbourg.
