View Full Version : Dog socialising in Norfolk Park

Today I took Maisey to the park. I checked for other dogs then took her off lead - we were practicing recall (ok failing recall for the most part) when we were approached by a lovely young Border Terrier also off lead. I always have that moment of panic (like all good dog keepers) but they got on really well and with the consent of her keeper they ran around for a good ten minutes. It was wonderful to watch her socialise.

Being my only dog, I often worry that she misses out on playing with others. So I was wondering if there were other small terrier type dog keepers who walk their dog there in the mornings? Would you be willing to let my dog run around with yours please?

aww that's lovely- owning a big daft dobermutt who is a bit funny with other dogs, I often wish we had a regualr pack to run around with, like she had when she was pup, but like you, we tend to panic when other dogs come rushing up to her. Would be nice if there was another friendly dog on our street she could go to the park with, but then the other half tends to take her out at unseemly times in the morning when most sensible folk are still in bed

What park do you use? I could be tempted to take her on tour.

To be honest I tend to try and observe before I wade in but a lot of people can't wait to get their dogs away. She had a brief encounter with a German Shepherd the other week. She wasn't harmed - both keepers were on hand - but it did try to pick her up by her back end (maybe she though she was a puppy).

I wish I'd tried it more with Poppy, she is really scared of other dogs but the other two are ace with others so I'll be up for it.

I usually work 1-9pm (she's not alone all that time) so afternoons aren't good for me.

TB I've given it some thought but it would have to be at the weekend and I'm not sure I could afford it. Its not that she needs socialising (i.e. learn social skills) as much as I want her to run around and have fun with other dogs.

Utter bedlam, I guarantee! Keeping the pack in order, out of the duck pond n away from the water ski-ers...

Rother Valley sounds like a bit of a winner but with my hours we'd have to meet at the weekend - is it likely to be packed with families? I don't mind her running up to children but their parents tend to.

Hi geckoqueen me being a regular visitor to Norfolk Park, i'm sure i know the dog and its owner.
The Boarder is a small bitch about thirteen to fourteen months old, i and pippo are usually in the park 8:30am onwards depending on the weather conditions.
And we do meet some really nice people with there dogs, so if you're in the park and spot pippo and me come over and say hello.Pippo (http://www.sheffieldphotos.com/v/me-and-pippo/album+02/pippo+__.jpg.html)

Yeah, she's a Miniature Schnauzer so about the size of a Border Terrier
