Does anyone know if Greyhounds can live with cats without chasing them, I would love one but have a cat.

It all depends on the individual dog, yumyum...

Some dogs are inveterate chasers, others are more "laid back".

When I first introduced my greyhound to my house mates cat neither liked the other and would chase each other evry chance they got. It soon settled down though. Eventually they were actually quite happy to sleep next to each other on the sofa. :hihi:

Some greyhounds are cat friendly, but in general you would need to be very cautious particularly if the dog has been worked or raced.
I have a greyhound/saluki lurcher who is very good with my cats, and fantastic with kittens he is so gentle and kind, but I wouldn't give tuppence for one (not mine) if he was running free somewhere and came across a cat.
Greyhound gap is a really good rescue as most of their dogs are first fostered in an home environment and accessed in different situations, one of them is cat friendliness.

Really thats good news, greyhounds are often such wimps a good swipe from a cat and many dogs stay away after :hihi: also if your cat doesn't run he won't awaken the chase instinct in the dog so much.

Have a look at the local greyhound rescue websites- they have advice on how to socialise greyhounds to accept cats, if not already socialised. It is possible for the 2 to co-exist (although I would be wary of introducing a greyhound to a smaller furry such as a guinea pig or rabbit - they cannot get away as quickly as a cat could). Ive got 6 cats n the dobermutt but if I had room I would seriously consider having a rescue greyhound- gorgeous dogs- and this is coming from someone who had her pet cat ripped to pieces by a greyhound many years ago outside- but this was an unsocialed greyhound which was only following its natural instinctive drive to pursue prey. In the home environment, you should find most greyhounds learn to live happily with other dogs n cats, given time and encouragement.

Thats worried me about your cat getting chewed up by a greyhound, hope it was ok, I could take a dog to work with me, but would like to introduce them slowly to see how we go.
