See http://www.pianos.co.uk/info/faqs.php3#overstrung for explanation and pictures.

Dunno where you can buy one in Sheffield.

In an overstrung piano the bass strings run diagonally across the treble one. This produces a much better sound as they are longer than in a straightstrung piano.

As for buying in Sheffield - there's a shop on Abbydale road. Abbey Pianos - 673 Abbeydale Rd, 0114 255 4714

ah thank you, so its a good thing - literally the strings are overstrung or layered on top of each other? i thought it meant over as in badly strung :)

Is that the one where they had a great sign in the window -"Put a piano on your Chopin Liszt". Geddit?

Do you find it wanders around the house talking to itself and muttering how bad life is for a piano in this day and age?

I have an overstrung piano for sale. I bought it for my daughter and unfortunately she has decided she prefers gymnastics! it is an older type, upright overstrung piano. I am hoping to sell it around £150. If anyone is interested please ring 07812004515. Alternatively I can send you a photo first.

Yewlandskid - you would probably be better off posting this is in the 'For Sale' section. You can give it a title e.g. 'Overstrung paino for sale' that will probably attract more interest than the current one.
