View Full Version : Bus fares going up from 22nd January
Fare Changes Details
13/01/2005 FirstDay Fare Change
Please be advised that from Saturday 22nd January 2005 the following price changes will be made.
FirstDay CURRENT PRICE - £2.70
FirstDay NEW PRICE - £3.00
Off-Peak FirstDay CURRENT PRICE - £2.20
Off-Peak FirstDay NEW PRICE - £2.50
The fare change on the 22nd January 2005 represents a return to the original £2.50 Off-Peak FirstDay ticket introduced in March 2004 and a minor increase of 10p on FirstDay tickets from £2.90 in March 2004 to the new price of £3.00.
The FirstDay ticket is great value if you're planning on making several trips on the same day, providing unlimited travel across South Yorkshire
are there to be any increases on single fares?
PaulTansley 14-01-2005, 12:01 Another reason to convince folk to leave there cars at home and take public transport. NOT.
whoa, its going up to £3 a day? :? I am SOOOOOOOOO glad I can get a discount weekly saver for £8 with my Uni card!
Mainline are taking the **** with their prices, do they not realise that Yorkshire Terrior's seven day savers are £7? If it wasnt for the fact that I go other places than into town and its only £1 more for me I'd be catching Terriors... surely its going to start losing them money when people can catch terriors for 7 days for the price of 2 days on First? :P
muddycoffee 14-01-2005, 12:29 I think that these prices are cheap compared to other cities. There was a trip on a bus in leeds the other week when they were talking about why they needed a tram, and the one way fare into town was about £1.70
I think we should pay a little more so our drivers can get paid properly.
beansfeast 14-01-2005, 12:33 What I don't understand is why they had to get rid of the return tickets?
Because of this I now have to pay £1.10 twice a day to get to work. And if I don't have the correct change the bus drivers generally just get grumpy. :loopy:

Not true. London is cheaper than sheffield, and it's a much bigger city!
Is there still an 'all transport' pass? What is it and how much does it cost? Is there a day one, or would it have to be for a week?
i don't generally mind i just like the fact we don't have to mess around with 5p's anymore! although i do support YT's all the way. generally nicer staff too.
there still is an all operater pass its called travelmaster theres different types ie
busmaster
rail master
and all operator pass which is valid on all bus companys tram train in south yorkshire its about £15 for a weekly one pick them up at any sypte travel centre

What, like in London where pensioners and disabled people use buses for free?

Yes, reward them for their poor driving skills and rude attitudes.
The more things like this I read, the more glad I am that I drive everywhere.

I rekon that in the next few months the single fares will go up as these have not changed for over a year. If they do then it will likely be by 5p so keep those 5p's handy.
Also Briano, If you are spending £2.20 a day going to work and back you will be better off getting a monthly pass for £37.00 if you buy on line.
If you go to work 5 days a week @£2.20 per day or £11.00 Per week or £44.00 Per month you would save yourself £7.00. Giving you three days of free travel.
Glad i got my maths GCSE.
When i used to be a Driver i always tried to tell passengers who were buying a £12.00 week card to go on line and buy a monthly one ,i was always suprised at the amount of people who didnt realise that it was available. They would save £11.00 per month or nearly a weeks free travel and it is advertised on all the Buses.

Thanks Jimmy. Do they do a day pass though, like they used to in Liverpool?

I think that the reason staff are nicer is that they are not on such a tight timetable and have a little more time to be friendly to people.

But Leeds' Seven-day saver tickets are much cheaper

The Green Zone (which covers as much of Leeds as you'd ever need) is just £7!

Where can I start looking? The South Yorkshire Transport site is less than useless. I can read all about their equality policies, but can find no info on transport on there.

Totally agree but i have manage to find out from their site that a Day South Yorkshire travelmaster is £4.95
That's handy to know. Thanks Unners. How far away from Sheffield can you get on it? I used to have a monthly one to commute here from Doncaster (many years ago)

Glad i got my maths GCSE.
And I'm glad I got my Maths Degree... which enables me to work out that I'm saving money by paying daily. Reason being I also cycle, drive and get lifts into town, and on a monthly basis it works out cheaper to pay daily due to the times I don't use the bus. :heyhey:

Well it's gone up then. Not so long ago could get a day bus card for a couple of quid. Even for a single it was £1.20 (I think it still is) and took you way way further than the £1.10 fare does in sheffield.
Even though it's gone up it's now the same price as a sheffield one. Considering we earn less up here, the London one is cheaper relatively speaking.
just had a look on transport for london website and a single journey in london in 1 zone is £1.20 single if you want to travel further into another zone then it goes up by something like 60p and so on the all zone off peak day ticket is £6.00 which mention earliey you can travel a vast distance anywhere in london and the surrounding area also kids under 11 travel free
I buy the £2.20 ticket about three or four times a week and often give it to friends/neighbours and sometimes strangers who are going out for the night, when I'm finished with it.
