View Full Version : Any chance of info. or map references for walks
i know this may be a bit cheeky -but if you don't ask you don't get.
some of the walks i've personally done, others i've considered doing, but when i sit and check the odd map or two i can't find anything resembling a footpath.
hence we don't do the walk - i like to be well organised as companions on the walk don't like getting lost.
so any chance of any extra info.
Which walks in particular do you need details on Willman? Your post is a bit vague which is probably why no one has answered.
A really good website for looking where to go is www.streetmap.co.uk the pink broken lines show the footpaths. It also gives you the OS reference.
i want all of them and i want them now.
seriously though i'll check them out - i fancied the eyam one but found a book myself around the same time.
in real terms any that are dog friendly with coffee shop somewhere. i purchased a good book recently but several walks involve a significant number of stiles or walking along potentially crowded streets.)ie middle of Eyam village)

I can see no reason why key Grid Ref can not given after the text of a walks details.
But knowing how to differentiate between (E)asting and (N)orthing ( E before N ) to enable someone to accurately follow the route on the map will be a essential requirement.
The next walk that I post I will put the G.R.s on.
It was standard custom at one time, though it must be added that with the personal pocket G.P.S. coming on stream the days of using Grid Refs appear be numbered.
I've never used one but does the GPS give the Grid Ref or Latitude/Longitude?
I've got a load of leaftlets and booklets somewhere Willman. I'll have a look and see if I can see anything dog/cafe friendly. Remind me though. My memory is like a... a... thingumyjig.

Here you are willman. Your Grid Refs:
(Fox House) 267 803. 270 804. 275 813. 274 814. 267 813. 261 830. 258 820. 254 820. 250 810. 250 802. 253 802. 257 800. 262 805. 266 802. 267 803. (Fox House)
I'm going to make myself a Grid Template so that in future they are spot on.
thanks for that plotted it all on my os map.i never usually go right from Fox House, i always walk down the hill.

The walk could easily be split into to two very easy enjoyable walks from Upper Burbage Bridge. Gr 262 830.
Keep on the top of Burbage Edge going towards Fox House.
If someone is dropped off at the bridge. They could arrange for who drop's them off, to pick them up at either the Fox House Inn's Car Park or the Car Park near the Supprise G.R. 253 802.
On a fine day allow four or five hours, take some binoculars and have a good easy walk with the dog in the City of Sheffield.
