View Full Version : Human League playing Dare - who is going?
pippadoll 23-09-2007, 04:20 PM Has anyone bought tickets to see the Human League in December at the City Hall?
I gather they are playing the Dare album in its entirity, can anyone confirm this.
If so, will they play anything else, Being Boiled for instance.
What would you like to hear?
Is anyone dressing up a la 1983? If so, what are you wearing?
steveb2007 23-09-2007, 08:08 PM i am going to this gig.they are playing all the dare album,i believe.after being turned down by missus, sister and numerous friends,i have now found a mate and his missus who are sad enough to go with me!:hihi:
should be good tho.
Saffy 24-09-2007, 07:44 AM Ha ha ... no ! Didn't like them the first time around.
NEILS 24-09-2007, 08:03 AM i,m going with my brother and friends, not dressing up but will be going in my 1983 merc with dare playing on tape in the car, should be a good night
pippadoll 24-09-2007, 09:58 PM Fab Neils.
Not many from the forum seem to be heading there. They really raised the profile of Sheffield as an interesting city in the 1980s and along with Heaven 17, ABC and Pulp later on impacted on my decision to choose to move to Sheffield. Really looking forward to it. First opportunity I have had to make one.
bionicdreams 25-09-2007, 05:23 PM Oh I bought that album this year! Love it especially 'seconds' . Don't alot of people dress like it's 1983? That stuff is kinda back in fashion now, the drainpipes, bright colors, geometric prints etc. H&M is good for that style.
steveb2007 26-09-2007, 12:22 PM Should be a good night.Dare is a classic.I last saw them at the city hall around '95/'96 when the Octopus album was released, which i think is a pretty decent album(one one man in my heart being the best track).
I believe,i believe what the old man said, but i know that there's no lord above,i believe in me,i believe in you,and i know i believe in love.I believe in truth, though i lie alot,i feel the pain from the push and shove, don't matter what you put me through,i still believe in love, and i said......i love your, love action....
steveb2007 28-09-2007, 10:05 AM Does anyone else find joanne catherall strangely attractive,or is it just me?:)
BasilRathbon 28-09-2007, 10:40 AM Does anyone else find joanne catherall strangely attractive,or is it just me?:)
I think Phil Oakey did once, but now she looks like a paler version of Christa Ackroyd I think you're on your own, mate.....
steveb2007 28-09-2007, 11:07 AM Everyone is a paler version of Christa Ackroyd though, obviously apart from Jodie Marsh :)
I hope you mean i'm on my own with Joanne, not on my own at the gig?:hihi:
steveb2007 29-09-2007, 12:02 AM It will be intresting to see if they play 'open your heart' as Phil Oakey said he would never play it again!!
i wonder if any of the leaguers read this forum, and how cool would it be if joanne were to reply to me on here!

i was at psalter lane art college with ian burden (who later joined them) when they first started and have followed their progress through the years. i loved their first two albums, travelogue and reproduction, but would defo go and see them play dare, what a great idea.
when susan lived on the corner of bingham park in the 90s, she always waved at me when i was walking my dogs, what a total poppet.
i dont mean she was sitting in the window watching the dog walkers, :hihi:, i mean if she was getting in the car when i was going in the park :hihi:
steveb2007 29-09-2007, 12:18 PM Are you going to the gig then white rose?
It should be a good night at the city hall.I have got a copy of Dare 20th anniversary album, been listening to it all week.:)
steveb2007 30-09-2007, 11:41 PM Joanne & Susanne,if you read this,a couple of v.i.p tickets wouldn't go amiss.

Tarquin 04-10-2007, 09:42 PM Does anybody know the the current full line up ? Just seen a few recent photos of Susan:love:
Yog Sothoth 05-10-2007, 10:02 AM I loved 'Reproduction' and 'Travelogue' but once they discovered disco they sort of lost me. Give me doom-laden synths and long overcoats over glitter balls any day.

Agreed; I still cringe at the memory of their 1983 novelty hit "Do The Oakey Cokey"......
ReginaldD 05-10-2007, 03:43 PM I shall be going I haven't really listened to them that much but my dad used to play it when I was growing up. My girl friend fancied going though she bought two tickets so I said I'd go with her. I'll go and see anyone these days, trying to have an open mind when it come to music and all, should be interesting.
steveb2007 08-10-2007, 06:19 PM It will be a good night.The dare album is a classic,although i can't believe it's been out for 26 years!!!!:gag:

steveb2007 09-10-2007, 12:58 AM I was 16 when dare came out,and YOU feel old? :hihi:

neily 10-10-2007, 11:25 PM Compared to what else was out they were certainly trendsetters and the music has aged rather well don't you think. Dare was a classic album, classic artwork, Great tunes, entertainment.! cd's suck !

I called in to box office today (10th) and they said there are no tickets left.
gemma86 11-10-2007, 03:29 PM I'm really looking forward to it, cos I've liked them for years and didn't think I'd get to see them, plus it's one of their best albums and a classic one at that :D
Bit worried about the tickets though cos it offered me 2 rows when I was buying them, one saying that it had a restricted view. Guess which I accidentally went for... At least I get to go
ChrisOffbeat 11-10-2007, 04:14 PM League fans might well like this...

Wasn't really four. So year, I do feel old. But can still remember listening to Dare night after night with a group of young teenage fans. Great time.

pippadoll 13-10-2007, 03:59 PM Do you remember phil's fringe then?
Do I remember it... my friend Ali had her beautiful blond locks snipped into a Phil. It looked far better than his, much better condition. She didn't even get excluded from school.

pippadoll 11-11-2007, 04:21 PM And Phil...
Saw him in the Electric Dreams video the other day, OMG what was that hair style, I really don't remember him with a perm. But then, it was the 80's and we all have loads of dodgy photo's of clothes and haircuts.
Not long now.
Hope he plays Being Boiled...

Carborundum 08-12-2007, 12:17 PM Sooooo how was the concert I couldnt get tickets to - will someone please post an official write up I'm dying to know how it went .... saw lots big lorries outside City Hall last nite
gemma86 08-12-2007, 12:54 PM It's a word that gets used too freely these days, but last night really was amazing. After liking them for so long and not thinking I'd get to see the live, it was incredible to see them on stage.
To be honest, I had no idea what they were like live, and was a little bit worried, but everything was spot on. It was great to listen to it loud and have a dance about!
Particularly enjoyed Do Or Die, cos I like the sound of that song anyway, especially the remix on Love and Dancing, Tell Me When, because that's the song that made me aware of the band when it first came out, Being Boiled was fantastic, and it was good to hear All I Ever Wanted.
I want to go again!
Rubbishy pictures... (http://www.facebook.com/album.php?aid=12612&l=046e3&id=502549231)
pippadoll 08-12-2007, 07:02 PM I agree. Last night was amazing. I have been a real fan since the very early 80's and never had the chance to see them. I didn't stop dancing from start to end. I was looking forward too it and it surpassed all of our expectations.
The sound quality was fantastic, although it could have been a little louder.
Phil sounded truly amazing; his voice was so powerful and held up thoughout. He looked in really good shape. Although, I am not sure about his stage runs.
The girls were still great. Co-ordinated but different. Joanne's dress, whilst not great in itself picked up the lighting brilliantly she looked truly spectacular. Susanne looked and sounded great; what a figure.
It was fantastic to hear Dare live and they certainly did it justice. It certainly took me back in time to being a little youngster singing into a hairbrush in my friends MandS rosebud bedrooom.
A few highlights for me came not from Dare; they were the Lebanon and Being Boiled (terrific) and Electric Dreams was a bit of fun for the final song.
The support band were interesting; I really enjoyed Duel by the singer from Propaganda, but disappointed with Memories by OMD, there were far stronger songs which I would have enjoyed. The tribute to Billy McKenzie was well recieved too, with a good version of Country Club by the associates.
I will be looking out for a future performance.
The City Hall is looking amazing. What a great investment in the re-fit and the staff were amazing.
steveb2007 09-12-2007, 11:56 AM It was a good entertaining concert, and a couple in our party where surprised how good The League were.
Well done to Sir Phil and the girls!
steveb2007 11-12-2007, 07:17 AM Joanne with her tackle on and sporting a whip will stay in my memory forever!!:)
