Okay, I know this is a little late to say 'go see this film' when it may only be on another day, maybe another week at most but I felt I had to say something.

This film is the first feature by incredibly talented writer/director/actor Zach Braff. For those of you who are Scrubs fans, he is the guy who plays JD.

This is very much his film, it is quirky, lovable and also funny in that not too obvious way. It has to be on of my most favourite films of the last few months, if not on my all time favourite films list.

In the space of less than a week, i've gone and seen this film 3 times now, I love it that much.

Please, please, please go see ot if you have the chance over the next couple of days (it may stop being shown tomorrow or friday at UGC, i'm not sure).

As an added bonus, it is being shown in the cinemeas with the big comfy seats too at the moment!

big  to this film!

Wilf

Yep - do like the man says - 2004 was a year with so many poor films, so Garden State really stands out as a real piece of quality!

Some of the surreal comic moments are so beautifully set up you can hardly believe your own eyes ;):hihi:

I can tell just by reading this thread that this is my kind of film. Can't wait to see it. Thanks people!

I really liked the film, but was a bit disappointed at the ending. Kind of standard happy ending that would be expected. Maybe I'm just a miserable sod, but I'd have preferred a less happy ending reflecting true life. Actually, yes I am a miserable sod aren't I? I suppose that's why like lost in translation so much.

Still think it's a brilliant film as there are so many ideas in it that I could relate to and it struck a lot of chords for me.

Incidentally, is anyone a fan of eternal sunshine of the spotless mind? I think that has become one of my favourite films.

Andy, I adore Lost In Translation too, though I have met many people who seem to actually LOATHE it rather than just disliking it. It's a film I can watch again and again, just letting that strange atmosphere of alienation and ennui wash over me. It always mystifies me that the lead quote on the back of the DVD box is something like "This film is HYSTERICALLY FUNNY", when it isn't at all. It's just heartbreakingly beautiful and oh-so-true. I suppose that's partly why so many people seem to misunderstand it.

I can recommend Napoleon Dynamite as a film that only certain people seem to 'get' too. (Not that this is necessarily a good point in itself, but you know, there's a certain type of humour that most definitely isn't for everyone...)

My mind was completely boggled by Eternal Sunshine... but I enjoyed it very much. Will definitely stand another viewing though, even if just to get the plot straight in my head.

Lost in Translation, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Napoleon Dynamite... I see a trend here: all movies with men who's mind numbing existence gets revitalised by some cute quirky lady (maybe less so with Napoleon).

If you like them then Garden State will be right up your alley. It does have some very funny moments

LOL. Guilty as charged, your honour!
