hi my son is eleven and a half months old and still can't sit up unaided and can only crawl on his belly sort of pulling himself along, he's is developing fine in all other areas and I am waiting for referal to the childrens hospital to check if it isn't anything serious. Has anyone else experienced anything similiar, thanks
I haven't but friends of ours did. Their child was similiar to yours and showing little mobilty in crawling/sitting and was referred for tests at the hospital.
The child was 17 months old when they finally saw the hospital. Were going through all the tests and their little darling decided to crawl and then walk and everything seems very normal.
Good luck and I hope it is a similiar outcome for your little one.

It's unlikely that there's anything wrong with your baby, but obviously it's understandable why you're a little concerned. Babies have a lot to learn from the minute they're born - my guess would be that your baby has been focusing more on learning other things and will catch up with the sitting and crawling when he's ready.
Also, it might be noted that when children are refered to see the paediatrician about slow development it's done so that any problems are caught early and so can be treated, often avoiding long term problems. It is, however, unlikely that there's any problem at all. Fingers crossed.

we've all been there! babybabychickens has had meningitis at least 20 times now...
*Hands up* I'm guilty too.
One of our twins was walking very early but the other took another 5 months to make any effort and it becomes very difficult not to compare them and think one is dropping behind.
They wre both slow to sit up but eventually caught on to the idea. Twingle 1 is always the last to develop physically, she's shorter and lighter too but fair more clued up in EQ than her sister.
Needless to say, both are bouncing around like a pair of monkeys, overly developed in the field of movement if you ask me but now I'm thinking about how their language development seems slow.
Though again, they are able to say 'oh no' (very dramatically), 'no', 'hot', 'down', 'eyes', 'c(-l)ock' 'Daaaaaaad' and each others names in amongst a vast array of animal noises and other more unique vocabulary - so I'm surely worrying without cause.
Isn't that what parents do best?

LOL zebra, the description of your twins speech reminds me of a story someone once told me of their little boy who had a fascination with watches ect....he stood in the middle of a well known shop and shouted at the top of his voice 'mummy look at that big c**k'!!
Sounds like something one of mine would do...
Hi armadillo
I have a daughter who is 4 at the end of October & she was very later with her developments.
she didn't start crawling till she was nearly 1 then started to stand n walk aided at about 16 months, then she had a long gap between walking aided & taking her 1st steps alone as she was nearly 2yrs old (actually 2 weeks before her 2nd birthday).
She did have physio from when she started to sit up until she started walking aided but she is till having problems now with her balance & confidence in doing things so has been referred back to physio at the childrens hospital.
