View Full Version : Johnny Nelson
tinajones 28-08-2003, 19:24 Johnny Nelson the sheffield millionaire and cruiseweight boxer champ.
in the news today...
hes got 8 armed policeman 24hrs a day on special alert and police helicopters doing regulars over his pad cos hes been threatened that hes gonna get kidnapped.
it takes about 30mins+ for the coppers to answer a call about anyone else.
thats tax payers money!!! and he owes me £50 from 2 years ago after i did some work for him.
Lindseyw 28-08-2003, 19:37 Not quite that dramatic Tina - but not far off. He is actually quite a nice fella, i know him and his family.
tinajones 28-08-2003, 19:52 well it was on the radio and front page of local paper. headline inside was something along the lines of 'its just like in the movies'.
also i never said he wasn't nice or that he ordered all the roz.
if you do know him can you get me my moolah?!
Lindseyw 28-08-2003, 19:55 LOL LOL I could try !! However I live within spitting distance and would have noticed a huge chopper hanging around ;)
tinajones 28-08-2003, 20:02 no worries! the local papers are full of **** anyway, they make out like they have the real story by interviewing people and taking some snaps then just write whatever they want. same as the tabloids.
I was just hoping the kidnappers had up to date information as I bought JN's old car after he traded it in for a silver model.:(
hehehe! (sorry maxt!)
nah Johnnys great and i hope this hasnt affected him and his family too much.
I wish johnny good luck and i hope when this ios over he can put it behind him and get on with his career and concerntrate on his family.
PaulTansley 29-08-2003, 21:31 By time old Jonny retired.
I used to train with him and the rest of the lads at West St gym years ago and the rest of his mates, Errol, Brian and Denis Afflick.
But your right he is a nice geezer, so is Errol but shame he never really hit the big time.

It is a real shame about Herol. He was the most talented British Middlewieght I have ever seen and much lesser boxers have had more success.
PaulTansley 30-08-2003, 18:36 Don't think Errol did that bad out of his title challanges and i remember Brian Anderson getting a right hammering off Tony Sibson, poor old Brian, think that ended his career.
I saw Lenox Lewis fight at the City Hall about 10 or 12 years ago and Stinger Mason and i think Paul Jones were on the same bill, both Sheffield fighters, and i used to work with silkys sister Hazel.
The only fighter i,m gunning to see if he comes to these shores is Roy Jones.

Yes, I saw the fight with Lennox Lewis too at City Hall. It was against Dan Murphy. At the time Lennox was just a novice pro. Sibbo was one of my favourite fighters with that booming left hook, I was lucky to meet him in Leicester a few years back. I don't think Herol earned the money a fighter of his ability should have, it would have been much easier for him in this day and age with the amount of paper champions about.
Roy Jones is best p4p fighter in the world and has the potential to be the best ever but his unwillingness to make fights unless their on his terms is detriment to his legacy. I wouldn't expect him on these shores, no promoter in Britain could make a fight of that magnitude involving Jones in this country.

Well, you never know,it nearly came off earlier this year and to Sheffield as well but as you say Jones eventually insisted our man went to him.
I can't rember his name who went over  i know he was a Sheffield fighter but he put up a convincing fight agaainst Jones.

It was Clinton Woods. I think Hobson (his manager) was kidding himself if he thought he was going to get Jones over here. Woods did put up a brave effort although been way out of his depth and outclassed. My American friends gave him alot of respect for his effort as before the fight they were under the impression that Jones was fighting just another bum.
jayjay03 01-09-2003, 18:31 You'd assume boxers can look after themselves but then again...
I remember going to Club Uropa and Naseem walked in with his brothers/entourage. Absolute comedy, especially when all 5ft 1 inches of Naseem pushed to the bar to order water. Lets just say one or two people fancied a pop.
Does anyone remember the alleged rumour that David Hirst smacked Naseem in Josephines one night because Nas got a little aggressive with one of Hirsty's female friends?

It's not just a case of dealing with the average person from the street. These sounded like some nasty people. The types who would likely come mob handed and/or armed. They were obviously aware of who it was they were dealing with and what capabilites they might have.
