I don't know about Sheffield Hilton but Manchester Hilton is open to the public and serves till late. I think it closes at 1am

Their duck spring rolls and dip are something else.

hi,

you should try Sanctuary next to sheffield cathedral, you will be able to have the table for the whole night!!

check out www.sanctuary-bar.co.uk

Little bit out of town, Crosspool, Artisan and Catch, really good place, excellent food, seafood upstairs in catch, I guess what you'd call contemporary downstairs, will be similar price to Hilton, which I think is a little bit lacking in Sheffield and you cna stay late, eat wonderfully, drinks lots and have a thoroughly good evening!

I've eaten at the Hilton in Sheffield twice, first time was nice but the second time was distinctly average and over-priced.
My favourite restaurants in Sheffield are Thyme Cafe on Broomhill, Cafe Guru just off West Street, Fellicini on Ecclesall or The Mogul Room on Sharrowvale Road. Also heard great things about the Blueroom Brasserie, and Platillos in Leopold Square.
Hope that helps x

I've always found Dam House menu to be rather average/unimaginative given the price, food quality is acceptable but nothing about the place including the place is exceptional, including the service which lacking in refinement, often very quiet as well have, somewhat of a glorified pub IMO.

Have you been since the new management team took over in June / July?

The chefs, decor and menu has changed since then. I think you will find the prices now good value compared to similar places.

... but i agree, if its not want you like then your welcome to your views.

I dont like mcdonnalds, but 4 billion people can not be wrong!

We had really super meal last night at Morans near the garden centre at the bottom of Dore Road. It was quiet but given the quality of the food it should have been packed. They've just re-opened after a refurb following the floods and everything was lovely and smart. The front of house service was some of the friendliest I have encountered without being over the top. Highly recommended and I am sure if you say that you want the table for the whole evening they will make sure that is what you get.

Moran's is lovely and the staff have always been friendly when we have been.

You really must try the Blueroom, it is lovely and really large so you can either stay at the table or move through to the comfortable bar after for drinks.

I agree with MrsMills, very average indeed.

Graet location, nothing else IMO.

Did you want to stay central? How far are you prepared to travel? How much do you want to spend?

Have you improved the wine list? Is the miserable middle aged man behind the bar still there. He made ordering a drink so uncomfortable none of us ever wanted to go to order, so decided to leave. This was on three occassions last year.

A great location, a nice place; awful sickening carpet. The food looks good, but the fixed dining times were a pain.

Can you confirm improvements on any of these?

It's ok, slightly expensive (as you'd expect) and the food is good, but not exceptional. I'd recommend Nonna's on Ecclesall Road, it's as expensive as the Hilton but the food is out of this world.

Wine list - yes, and have a wine of the month

Miserable middle aged man - nope, gone, went with the old chef. now got three young cocktail bar tenders (more mojito than pina colada)

Carpet - still outside the toilets upstairs but all wooden floors

Food - still good

Opening times - 7 days a week, 11am until 11pm, all through the day.

check it out, a sheffield restaurant, owned by sheffielders and ran by sheffielders

marco at milano is simply the best in sheffield. tell the staff when you book that you want to stay and they'll ensure you get a great table tucked away.

Shame the mojito's aren't better then (so sweet they made my eyes water!) Get them to take a mojito lesson at Cubana's or Las Iguanas. I do, however, agree that the food at the Dam House is very nice in the evening - daytime menu average at best.

You want to try the MileStone down on Green Lane. Really nice little bar/restaurant. Downstairs is the bar/restaurant which serves top notch tapas style food, pizzas etc. All really nice and the prices are excellent! Upstairs is a formal restaurant, we didn't try this but it looked nice all the same. So there's plenty to chose from when you get there! The staff are really nice as well, they're glad to help and even give you advice on what sort of food you may like! After the meal there's no presure to move at all, we stayed at our table for a while and had a few drinks.

Really worth a visit!

What about Cipolla? Went there not long ago and it was lovely nice food, nice friendly staff and a really romantic venue to woo your better half! xx

After having several very pleasurable visits to Cipolla in Broomhill, I would like to pass on my recommendations. Cipolla has a fantastic, lively atmosphere with fantastic food and service to match. With an extensive menu you really are spoilt for choice (not good for those of us who sturggle to make up our minds:confused:).

Thanks for this JD. Will try to get down soon. Tempted by the cocktails and Wine of Month. Also want to eat here, as the menu looks good.
