Hi All :help:
Does anyone or anybody know where they renovate steam engines, stations etc
About twenty (ish) years ago they used to do it in the Black Country (where I used to live !)
I would really like to find one around Sheffield(ish)
Thanks in advance
Mr NO Steam !!
I don't know if they are doing anything at the minute, but the National Railway Museum in York do stuff like that. http://www.nrm.org.uk/home/home.asp
There's a few steam railways around here, Elsecar Railway http://www.avvw03.dsl.pipex.com/
Or there's Midland Railway, that's pretty good, http://www.midlandrailwaycentre.co.uk/English/home.html
Hope that helps you :)
Have you seen this thread http://www.sheffieldforum.co.uk/showthread.php?t=259018 I clicked on the link in there it looks quite good!

try peak rail
http://www.peakrail.co.uk/index.htm
Whilst its about 100 miles away from Sheffield the North Eastern Locomotive Preservation Group is one of the biggest groups to be involved in owning and repairing steam locoos. They are based at Darlington and have locos like Blue Peter as well as K1, Q6, J27 etc among their fleet of locos.
Blue Peter has been temporarily at Chesterfield for the past 6 months or so while the Darlington Railway Museum ( where it is normally based and which is next door to the NELPG workshops) is renovated.
They have a good website but the system won't let me put the link on here as I haven't made 5 posts yet !! So use google !

There's a preservation society over in Bury - East Lancs Railway I think it's called.
Within easy reach of sheffield you have Barrow Hill (although its mostly diesel and electric they do have a few steam engines). Then there's Peak Rail, North Yorkshire Moors Railway, Middleton Railway, National Railway Museum, East Lancs Railway

The Museum of Science and Industry in Manchester have a few locos and carriages they're always renovating. Give them a call and see if they need more volunteers.
