View Full Version : New music festival?
groovykyle 19-09-2007, 02:36 PM Is this something Sheffield needs?
Would this interest people,....im doing some research so all comments/suggestions would be very useful.
Thanks
Becci85 19-09-2007, 02:54 PM Depends on what sort of scale you're talking.. i think a music festival in sheffield would be good.. but would it be related to sheffield i.e bands from sheffield or just be a general festival?
groovykyle 19-09-2007, 02:57 PM Definately Sheffield orientated, not ruling out 100% the possibility of other bands/musicians/performers from different places, but a strong Sheffield feel to the festival would be paramount.
John Locke 19-09-2007, 02:58 PM Somthing on the scale of the Leeds Carling festival, and with a decent line up, would be pretty darn good for Sheffield I think.
Agent Gypo 19-09-2007, 03:08 PM I'm told Sheffield City Council are a massive hurdle when it comes to any kind of outdoor music event.
groovykyle 19-09-2007, 03:51 PM Anymore suggestions/comments?
Thanks btw guys
mr.blaze 19-09-2007, 03:54 PM Indeed they are, uncooperative to say the least.
discodown 19-09-2007, 04:00 PM Of course it would be great but where would you hold it and how long would it last?
Becci85 19-09-2007, 05:51 PM you might be best contacting SIV for don valley stadium..? they likle their music.. might be able to use their grounds like they do for things like after dark?? then the council dont have to get that involved do they??? :hihi:
Agent Gypo 19-09-2007, 06:10 PM There's Devonshire Green, but if I remember rightly the Devonshire Jam was moved from there as it was too expensive. And the council were being their usual helpful selves.
Not really sure where else you could have it. Endcliffe Park maybe? There's a fairground there every year for about a week so why not music for a weekend?

Oops, think before you speak. It'd have to be a free festival in the Park though, as there's no way you could control who comes in and out of the park.
There's the cemetery near The Vine that's used occasionally for these sort of things.
groovykyle 19-09-2007, 06:19 PM Cemetry near the vine? Where abouts is that? Sounds interesting...

Like "Peace in the Park"?
Smithster 19-09-2007, 06:25 PM Could do it on the airport land. I mean, it's not as if any aircraft ever actually use it!
groovykyle 19-09-2007, 07:17 PM What type of things would people like to see?
Also, how much would people be willing to pay?
discodown 19-09-2007, 07:19 PM I'd like to see a good mix of rock, indie and dance music
I'd pay almost anything for the right lineup of bands/dj's i wanted to see
fox20thc 19-09-2007, 07:23 PM I'd love a festival in Sheffield, if we as residents of this fair city got a fair crack of the whip when it comes to getting tickets.
I'd also like to see alternative entertainment and ideas like they do at peace.
Price, depends on the line up and the entertainment on offer.

thats quite unfounded and unfair....whenever we have spoken to the council regarding festivals they have been more than willing to assist...
Agent Gypo 19-09-2007, 09:05 PM I'm surprised nothing has ever been put on out Rother Valley way. There's space for camping there too.

There was going to be the Lakeside festival there a few years ago (2001?) - but it got moved at short notice to Don Valley for ( I think) Health & Safety reasons. Headcharge & Juju both did stages & there was also a live stage amongst other stuff. Sadly it didnt do the numbers and lost a fair bit of cash
:(

I was just about to suggest this, and best of all it is not under the jurisdiction of Sheffield council.
