Tonight I will be cooking plaice, with courgettes, and pasta. Afterwards, there is a large tin of rice pudding into which I will pour some evaporated milk, and a teaspoon of strawberry jam, before serving.

Mushroom soup for lunch today. Wild mushrooms, from the bottom of the garden and a good wallop of fresh cream all helped. No good for the figure, but who cares? And a glass of claret (finishing last night's bottle) but I didn't cook that, did I?

Do tins of rice pudding count? We expect better of Nigella!

Isn't this thread supposed to be the last thing you cooked, rather than the next thing you're thinking of cooking?

Mushroom soup is my favourite. I tell you what you dont see now, thats celery soup, I wonder why ? I was going to buy some celery salt today as Nigella Lawson was using it in a recipe, and said it saved her chopping celery up, but I forgot didnt I ?

Tonight's tea was roast chicken with a huge pile of salad and bread and butter. I didn't think about doing baked apples in the space left in the oven until it was too late- oh well.

It's local down here. And it would make good economic sense, at a little over a pound a pint, if I didn't get through it so quickly.

I think a lot of the smaller breweries sell polypins for around the same price, in the region of £40 for 32 pints (but you can normally get 36 out if you don't mind it slightly yeasty at the end).

I'll have to check round the breweries in the area, to see what I can find. I'll also see if I can find any Adnams, round here too, I like to try out new brews. I've found the brewery, so if I'm ever down there, I'll try it.

They say young people don't even know what dripping is these days... So they don't know what they're missing, do they?

Works really well. I often liven it up with a touch of chilli - but none tonight as I was eating with the kids. Youngest is a bit of a chilli fairy....the smoked bacon is a must and I sometimes grill the red pepper which adds to the depth and smokiness of the flavour. Thyme too.
