View Full Version : What is your best clubbing experience? slimsid2000 17-09-2007, 13:52 What would you say is your best ever clubbing experience (if you dare own up to it:hihi:). Agent Gypo 17-09-2007, 14:07 Walking down the steel staircase in Arches for the very first time and seeing a pulsing, seething mass of bodies on the dancefloor. Dancing like an absolute maniac to DMX Krew, the first event proper I booked. Looking on in awe at Squarepusher when he played a live/dj set at Leadmill. The first time I went to C90, and saw Ceephax Acid Crew. Probably the best night musically that I've had in Sheffield. nick2 17-09-2007, 14:12 A night in some club (might have been a warehouse actually) near Battersea power station, years and years ago. Sarted at about 9pm and finished at lunch time the next day, music was awsome, DeeLite were the Dj's, there were lasers, projectors, fireworks, a woman on a trapeze, all sort of stuff. It was great, I had to sleep for 2 days afterwards recover. Bago 17-09-2007, 14:29 Oh, there's so many... After exam disco in this nightclub in Manchester. (Not going to name it. :hihi:) So many of my friends, and people that I knew also turned up to it. We danced our socks off, then they brought out the foam machine, and of course, it got silly then. Still kinda fun. Everybody was so high cos it's the end of exam period. I like the fact that people didn't even have to drink to get so high, and enjoyed themselves, which gives this amazing vibe. Then there's also the time when a bunch of us drove all the way from Manchester to Liverpool just to experience Cream and its infamous music scene. I have to say, it was an experience, and we did stay up til late just yapping, and chatting with people in general. The club was opened til 4am. It had so many music rooms too. I think what I liked about it is the fact that it all about the music, and it transcends across very different groups of people across society. You do have the usual work prof type who uses drugs to get high. You have the gays, and the flamboyancy to their personalities. You have the students, and oversea students who experiences that first time of independence from home. All under the one roof for the music. It's pretty cool. :) BasilRathbon 17-09-2007, 15:00 What would you say is your best ever clubbing experience (if you dare own up to it:hihi:). Hitting a seal over the head. Urban_Pebbles 17-09-2007, 15:17 Walking down the steel staircase in Arches for the very first time and seeing a pulsing, seething mass of bodies on the dancefloor. I second this. Stormy 17-09-2007, 15:22 The full moon party on Koh phagnan in Thailand last year, clubbing on a beach is something you've gotta try once in your life!.... Or getting very messy and dancing at 5am to the Swedish House Mafia at creamfields this year... In Sheffield maybe Tom Middletons 4 hour set at DQ takes some beating, or the first time a friend dragged me kicking and screaming to the Fez for the first time, which is where I really got into clubbing and thought, 'ahh so this is what everyone is on about then!' Whats yours sid? the-lioness 17-09-2007, 15:37 YEH WHATS YOURS SID? mine was probly either when spoony and trev nelson did the cavern club at cheltenham racecourse back in the 2001 uk garage golden year.... f*** me - spoony even did a shout out to me and my mates on his show afta the weekend slimsid2000 17-09-2007, 15:40 YEH WHATS YOURS SID? mine was probly either when spoony and trev nelson did the cavern club at cheltenham racecourse back in the 2001 uk garage golden year.... f*** me - spoony even did a shout out to me and my mates on his show afta the weekend and when Judge Jules did plug in 2005 we were the last ones on the floor- the cleaners had to get us out the place. To be honest I don't know. I suppose it would be something pretty simple like if a girls smiled back at me or any club where girls were sexily dressed (short skirts etc) but then that is me. I don't really go out for the music but in the hope of meeting a girl. (you did ask) the-lioness 17-09-2007, 15:42 To be honest I don't know. Trouble is clubs play music too loud for me. blades74 17-09-2007, 15:50 The first night I went clubbing was the Limit back in '89 when I was just a wee lad(15), it was the bumfluff that got me in I swear!!! That was my introduction to the wonderfull world of Acid House! CJ's was always a good nite too. Both places are long gone but Im sure theres plenty on here who remember....... slimsid2000 17-09-2007, 15:52 My first club was Roxy's in 93. nick2 17-09-2007, 16:18 The first night I went clubbing was the Limit back in '89 when I was just a wee lad(15), it was the bumfluff that got me in I swear!!! Oh to be young and not give a damn again. You can say that again, Mr ! :hihi: These days, you have to be battered into societal rules, and slot yourself into the social categories. It used to be quite funny when asked, "why do you go to clubs then if you don't want to pull ?", and my answer was "just cos I can?" katy1981 17-09-2007, 16:49 ive had brilliant nights in most bars and clubs in sheffield at some point in the past couple of years but one that stands out the most is a friday night day at gatecrasher that involved tequila, vodka and red bull, memory loss that totalled about 2 hours, the walk of shame through a warehouse full of blokes while i was wobbeling i still had my clubbing clothes on and my make up! and my hair was scary looking! then if that wasnt bad enough, a drunken arrival to work at 8am ish 1 hour late! and a little tipsy as we only left the club at about 6am!(apparently)! then finally a written warning from work about the seriousness off going into work drunk! and finally a dear and fellow forumer who couldnt stop laughing at me for a few weeks as he kindly looked after me and made sure i was safe allthough he seemed to take great pleasure in it :suspect: was a bloody great night though tbh it was the best id had in ages the club was packed the booze flowed freely the atmosphere was amazing and i had the lovliest people in the whole world with me :D id detail the rest but A - i cant remember it all B - its too scary to remember in detail :help: johnbradley 17-09-2007, 16:57 Everybody was so high cos it's the end of exam period. In my experience at university students got high after exams with a mixture of alcohol, ecstasy, poppers and cocaine...that may explain the 'amazing vibe' somewhat. I was in manchester too:) Bago 17-09-2007, 17:00 er, ok then! In my experience at university students got high after exams with a mixture of alcohol, ecstasy, poppers and cocaine...that may explain the 'amazing vibe' somewhat. I was in manchester too:) Ah-ha.... but not *everyone* did. ;) I know what went on, but not everyone did, which makes it a bit nicer an experience tbh. :) johnbradley 17-09-2007, 17:01 my favourite clubbing experience was probably seeing Roni Size on the Reprazent tour, at Alexandra Palace, in 1997, with 10,000 others, and choc full of chemicals. I couldnt see properly and i chewed a hole through my top lip but the vibe was amazing! johnbradley 17-09-2007, 17:03 Ah-ha.... but not *everyone* did. ;) I know what went on, but not everyone did, which makes it a bit nicer an experience tbh. :) thats fair enough, you can get high naturally...i went to a really good 'bugged out' once completely sober, and enjoyed it, sort of. katy1981 17-09-2007, 17:04 id like to add to mine one of my best club experiances was going to manumission at priviledge in ibiza, it was an amazing club and the night was fantastic some amazing people and the live shows they put on were outstanding! Bago 17-09-2007, 17:11 thats fair enough, you can get high naturally...i went to a really good 'bugged out' once completely sober, and enjoyed it, sort of. OMG.."Bugged Out"... Gawd, that brings back memory. :hihi: I remember going to Sankey Soaps, and also one time to the Granada Studio where they had a Hawllowe'en do, with different dance rooms and musics. That was pretty good as well. Actually, thinking about it, how come Sheffield don't have such nights? Smithster 17-09-2007, 17:19 Bedrock - The Beach Club - Brighton - Sasha & John Digweed all-nighter. 'nuff said. Paulmat 17-09-2007, 17:38 Hmm, a pretty good recent one was on the campsite at Leeds festival, where the big tent was, they had a bit of a rave. It was great! Then stupidly someone decided to go to the 'Silent Disco' (whatever that is). higgins 17-09-2007, 20:10 Hearing the Sunrise tune we made on £100 of kit played at Gatecrasher by PVD, many years ago. Also the bit where you first walk in and you just know it's going to be a big night goldenfleece 17-09-2007, 22:00 REBELS nightclub, Christmas eve 1982........nothing comes close.... Unisol 18-09-2007, 08:36 Walking down the steel staircase in Arches for the very first time and seeing a pulsing, seething mass of bodies on the dancefloor. I absolutely concur! The very early Nimmo's/Niche days were pretty amazing too. Almost on par with Ibiza's DC10 vibe. Had some pretty fantastic times over the years e.g. The Canal club in Wolverhampton, Wobble in Brum, Chuff Chuff etc. ... but the holy grail of great 'clubbing' (hate that word BTW) has to be Space in Ibiza. Had some outrageously amazing days/nights there over the years! Pacha also holds some great memories of Ibiza too. From the superb restaurant, to the stunning roof terrace, to several rooms of amazing atmosphere, to the walking back to the hotel (e.g. EsVive) along the beach front. Met some great people out 'clubbing' over the years, many of whom are still great friends. Work hard, play harder! squidge00 18-09-2007, 09:05 The first time i went to gatecrasher with my boyfriend and hearing Delerium 'Silence' which made the whole club rush to the dance floor and dance in honour of the dj. This was before i started going clubbing properly and i think i was sober at the time as well. WYEXILE 18-09-2007, 09:34 First time I saw Derrick Carter at Back to Basics in 1996. Seeing Juan Atkins, Claude Young and Fabi Paras, also at Back to Basics. Jeff Mills at the Orbit in Leeds. 4 decks, a 303 and a reel to reel tape player. Also remember seeing Daft Punks first ever appearance in the UK in about 1996. Absolutely blew me away. Chris BIO 18-09-2007, 12:51 Danny Tenaglia 12hr set at Sankeys :cool::cool: or Derrick Carter doing 5hr set on 6 decks - a proper education that night. Booch 18-09-2007, 16:03 Off the top of my head! TooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooL Pipine 19-09-2007, 21:51 Its near impossible to pick one night... probably a Spoof / Smokescreen night at the Arches when everyone I knew was out and having an amazing time... Or the eclipse party at Porthcurno where we danced on the beach with Ken Kesey and the remaining Pranksters (and their kids) and the sea was full of phosphorescent sparkles and the sky was full of stars... Or a smokescreen birthday free party in the woods somewhere on a cold frosty november night, wearing about 10 layers of clothes but the music was out of this world. :D fliketyflic1 19-09-2007, 22:09 Had i great time clubbing when i was pregnant! in 2003 with my 1st child watching everyboby i know have a graet time i just buzzed of them .... that was at planet zogg down at the arches back in the days before plug oh i miss the arches.... but zogg is still great where ever it finds a home ....I also went when i was pregnant with my 2nd child. they both love dance music so they has good taste just like me :-) Damon 19-09-2007, 22:26 Voodoo, Liverpool - April 1997: Dave Clarke, an illuminated dancefloor and a seriously overactive smoke machine. Bugged Out, Liverpool - September 1998: the first one at Nation in Liverpool. Thought they might have one room open and a few hundred people in. Got there to find the whole place open and 3,000 going nuts to Derrick May, James Ruskin, Justin Robertson etc. Tribal Gathering - May 1997: Kraftwerk, followed by Daft Punk, followed by Jeff Mills till dawn. Maybe paradise garage beats it but I never went there. The Limit - Saturday afternoons. (dj Mongoose was bad to the bone) Outside the Roxy - Saturday afternoon. The true spirit of hip hop Sheffield community came alive and was wicked. Big up to Smack 19, Positive force, St Crew, D-Crew (for being funny) Compulsions, Jam Factory - The Palais (House and Dance true rave style) Jive Turkey - City Hall Make it funky - Palais (Sheffields last true eclectic underground night) Nottingham Rock City - All dayers. (house sound of chicago tour feat Adonis, marshall jefferson and farley jm funk / Mantronix live) Love 2 be - (Todd Terry, New Years Eve) Kenny Dope in the vip room playing hip hop. Home - Manchester. Was always under rated and in the shadows of the legendary Hacienda but true house people loved it. Ucci (fruit cupboard) - Leeds - 1998 - 2003 (R&B, UK Garage, Hip Hop) no better atmosphere in the country until the bad boys invaded. Magic - Leeds after the demise of Love 2 Be every one decided to grow up and put the pills down and boogie to a mixture of soul, funk, house, hip hop, disco. All your 80's soul nights that is apparent now base there dj sets on this night in particular, as they were doing it first. Quality -Brown Street. Sheffields last true real R&B / Hip Hop night. If I was to think of a club now that is doing it musically and with fit women, then forgive me but I would not know anywhere. Those days have long gone. You kids today have missed out on some really good times as everything back then was fresh. Now people are struggling to create a good combination of good music, fit women and a safe party great atmosphere. Matt S 26-09-2007, 01:58 Honestly not just a plug for my venue, but either Tom Middleton @ BUG or James Zabiella afterparty for UG... Ha Ha, had some legendary nights in there (the ones I can remember), and may I add that the Headcharge Warehouse Party up near Hillsborough was also up there with the best! Och! Headcharge! I remember those days at the Wicker Arches 10 years ago, and it was at Headcharge that I met a transvestite for the very first time. Such a wierd experience at the time, and I remember that I was fascinated in asking her, to find out what made a person like that tick! The very same tranny is STILL out there on the scene, BTW, and I owe a lot to her for plucking up the courage to go out dressed myself! To be brutally honest, my own best clubbing experiences have been where I have been the drag host, and done a great, trouble-free drag cabaret at verious gay nights in this country and abroad. My favourite in Sheffield was at Razor Stiletto, December 2005 (Razor is ALWAYS a good night), when I won the Sheffield Glamorous Tranny competition with my rendition of Wuthering Heights. Also, not forgetting Rotherham, I know clubbing there is nowhere near as active as Sheffield, but I was the drag host at a gay night at Studio/Milanos for several months, and I am so proud how I (and my friend who was DJ) managed to really get the crowd going -and get them coming back fortnight after fortnight- for a really enjoyable night! jake 29-09-2007, 18:09 Probably a Pendragon at Brixton Academy 6 or 7 years ago - its such an epic venue (4500 capacity) that you have the sort of experience you cannot really have in Sheffield - some of my fave Djs like Beamish, Oberon & Mark Sinclair were at the top of their game and to see them rocking that many people was quite special. The short lived Destination Venus brought a taste of that to Sheffield for a year - and some of those were magical... The Arches was probably the best club I've been to - and no doubt will get reminissed about for years to come. I was never a big fan of the music at Headcarge but the atmosphere and people made it a great night out. Overall though Planet Zogg has probably proved me with my fave momments - seven years down the line and its kept it lovely crowd, great music and attention to detail in decor etc Other memories of not stricly clubbing but dance music- lost of free parties - Gardener St, lawrencefield, stocksbridge, ladybower etc etc lots of festivals abroad - and probably my all time fave - dancing on the beach at the Samothraki festival as the sun came up over the Aegean... again you cannot really get that on wet october in Sheffield! Got agree with this dude. Razor Stilletto, however successful it is and fairplay to it. It is by far just a glam thang. Musically it is very poor. I have yet to go to a gay night in the UK where the music has been proper hot. The closest good gay night that I last enjoyed was Trash at Kikis and that was for the 2nd room. As a straight person I could completely get what they were doing. I went to Vague once and yes it was a good night. I think I may have been spoilt with my exploits in NY at an early age, as I always maintained the gay house scene played the best house music. However when I came back to the UK the music which alot gay nights played were always secondary to the glam thing in most cases. Vague and Trash were exceptions as they had a good music policy. nickb2007 30-09-2007, 20:01 ibiza in the early 90's! Yes, unfortunately the gays of the UK have never quite got it like in the US. Whilst they get Larry Levan and the Paradise garage we get G A Y and appearances by Steps and McFly. Good job us straights jumped on the house music bandwagon so early on. Highfielder 01-10-2007, 21:34 Spectrum, Heaven, The Trip, Astoria, both London in Summer 1988, Yikes, Slough Centre 1989,then later Strawberry Sundae, Vauxhall or Sunnyside Up/Mind Over Matter, London both mid-late '90s were all top nights.... ... but for a night that had it all...nice weather, sensation overload, great music, feeling you were at the heart of something culturally significant, amazing vibe, and just down the road from where I was living at the time it probably has to be Sunrise's Midsummer Nights Dream at White Waltham in June 1989...the sheer intensity of this night was recently rekindled for me when I found a clip of it on the Hardcore Will Never Die website, I never even knew anyone had videoed it till this year ...if you ever want to know what the legendary Acid House Summers of 1988/89 were really like just take a look at this.... ****** mental matey as we used to say back in the day... discodown 02-10-2007, 17:48 Yes, unfortunately the gays of the UK have never quite got it like in the US.
