The buildings that i think are standing the test of time well, are most of the projects for the World Student Games. Ponds Forge and Don Valley still look impressive even though they are nearly 15 years old, which this being Sheffield they should be demolished in the next five years or so! The NCPM will proberly still look good in ten years time.West one on Devonshire Street,The new apartments being built for Sinclairs on West Street. Winter Gardens and Galleries. And thats about it.

winter gardens should be around for a long time, same with the theatres.

From what people have told me about some of the apartments on West Street I'll be suprised if they are still standing in 10 years.

I live in west one and to be fair they aren't really built to last.... cracks have already appeared in the ceiling of the corridor area and around some of the main door frames and the drainage system is so poor its untrue. I do love the area though and I wouldn't move for the world.. also, inside my flat is perfect, no damage or problems with the plaster. I think the communal areas just take a bit of a battering.

It's only what I have overheard in the pub, so it might be crap, but I doubt they will last the 30+ years that the council blocks have.

West One - wasn't there a fire in the basement which caused smoke damage to lots of flats all the way up the building - some problem with the way it was designed / built. Seem to remember this from the Star some time back. Also heard that the main sewage leaks into the shops on the ground floor.

Notice I call them 'flats' and not 'apartments'.

West One is very poorly put together. It took forever to get the thing finished, mainly because once the main structure was up and flats prepared, everything else got left to fit in with the contractors spare time. There was alot of work on in sheffield at that time, and construction staff were thinly spread.

It will wear badly that building, as opposed to the development on Ecclesall Road (former brewery) which seems much better built.
