View Full Version : Nervous patient needs a dentist willing to knock them out! jelly 16-09-2007, 19:26 I live in Hillsborough, and I need a dentist who offers sedation. SarahD 16-09-2007, 20:11 I think Charles Clifford can put you on a waiting list for sedation. voodoodanny 16-09-2007, 20:14 Maybe it would be easier to seek hypnotherapy to help you get over your irrational fear of dentists instead ...just a thought! xxsarahxx 16-09-2007, 21:26 I live in Hillsborough, and I need a dentist who offers sedation. I've tried searching on the net but got no results, so I'd be grateful for any help!! same here...:( iv been referred to charles cliffords through my dentist cos iv got to have 7 teeth pulled out and i am petrified of dentists and their needles..:hihi: see your dentist if you have one if not join a dentists and ask them to refer you. good luck. *_ash_* 16-09-2007, 21:58 I think the one opposite the new mosque at Heeley does it. Longcol 16-09-2007, 23:18 The one on School Road in Crookes is very good. I hadn't been to a dentist for nigh on 20 years and was thinking I needed the big KO before treatment.........however after talking through the treatment with them was happy to have the needle..and it was pretty easy. Dentist was called Katherine Lines I think......she was very reassuring and doesn't make the "patient" do anything they don't want to do. I'd certainly reccomend you tried them. Twitcher 17-09-2007, 13:27 Maybe it would be easier to seek hypnotherapy to help you get over your irrational fear of dentists instead ...just a thought! Irrational!!! You gotta be kidding it's a genuine fear! Gas and air (inhalation sedation) is the answer but even my dentist (for phobics like me) don't use it unless they absolutley have to and even then I would have to travel quite far (which I wouldn't mind), so I hope I don't need any treatment in the near future. If you're referring to full anasthetic you'd have trouble finding anyone who would be willing to be what's classed as a risky procedure in a Dentist chair. Twitcher 17-09-2007, 13:28 I think the one opposite the new mosque at Heeley does it. I don't think they do it here any longer, and it would be by referral from your GP only at this surgery. Plain Talker 17-09-2007, 14:12 I think the one opposite the new mosque at Heeley does it. you are correct, Ash, they do, but they are an NHS clinic, rather than a general dentists, and I believe a potential patient will need to be referred. my best mate is under their care, as she is a shockingly phobic patient. madowl 17-09-2007, 14:23 I live in Hillsborough, and I need a dentist who offers sedation. Domiciliary Care available. In general as a private patient you don't need a GP referral but if you want knocking out completely you will have to pay for an anathestist to be present. However, it is worth bearing in mind that dentists are qualified surgeons and can prescribe sedatives. My old dentist in London did not like working on patients who were knocked out but instead used to give intravenous valium. It was good because I was still aware but did not care. More recently I visited another dentist (unfortunately again in London) and he did not use injections he had this high pressure gun that forces the anasthetic through the gum. I did not need the sedative when I went to see him because it is the injections I don't like. He was very gentle as well. voodoodanny 18-09-2007, 21:59 Irrational!!! Just 'cos it's a genuine fear doesn't mean it's not irrational ...it just means you're afraid of something that can't really do you any harm ...like spiders etc. Either way, I hope you find what you're looking for. |
