View Full Version : White Noise
Anybody seen this yet?
i like 'scary' films but good ones are so rare
this REALLY did the business i can't remember a film as disturbing as this! :o can't believe it got a 15 certificate
very good film indeed
jonhanson 11-01-2005, 09:38 When i first started watching it, i didnt think it would have the 'jump' factor but i was wrong, good plot. Though i think the film that has the most 'jump' factor has to be The Grudge.
DaBouncer 11-01-2005, 10:04 Great film definately, didn't scare me (but being a horror movie junkie - all of em struggle).
I can thoroughly recommend this movie for people to go and see - amazing!

Didn't scare you?! blimey you must be reyt 'ard!
or i guess i wasn't scared scared it's just that it was thought provoking
replied to your post though cuz i want to know what films have 'scared' you then!?
since i absolutly cr*ped my self seeing the grudge (slept with light on, darnt move under covers etc), would you recommend i gave this one a miss?
And here's me thinking 'white noise' was what Michael Jackson made.

The film itself looks very good from the trailer I've seen and hopefully if the missus comes round to going to see it- I will be visiting the UGC very soon.

i don't think of this as just a 'jump' movie it's a lot more - it's thought provoking which together makes it FAR more creepy
but there again i didn't rate the grudge but if that scared the cr*p outta ya then leave this well alone!
Ousetunes 12-01-2005, 09:44 The big question is: Do you believe in Electronic Voice Phenomenon? I reckon it's a possibility. I haven't seen the film and shall wait till it's shown on Sky but it's a subject that interests me.
Years ago there was a publication called The Unexplained, a fortnightly magazine that dealt with this subject, along with UFOs, spontaneous human combustion (with some frankly sick photograpgh) and ghosts. I think its launch issue came with a flexi disc on which there was 'evidence' of voices from the grave. One case, which was used on the radio commercial at the time was to do with someone calling out from a grave the name of one Professor Zentnar (no doubt spelled wrong). Whatever, it utterly freaked me out and Radio 4 repeated a snippet of it just the other side of Christmas. 24 years since I first heard it, it really makes me feel uneasy!
If my memory serves me, the Zentnar case was the result of the lowering of a microphone 6 foot down into this 'patient's' coffin - and the voice detected was calling out for the Professor that was at one point in charge of this patient. I could be miles off, but you get the jist of a microphone picking up a corpse's voice from the grave?!
The Unexplained was first issued in 1981 and the very day I bought my issue with the above in it, my great-grandma died.
Spoooooookkkkkyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy.

Heh heh!! :hihi:
It's a good film, but really not frightening... I'm VERY weedy with horror/thriller films, but I watched it and thought it was pretty non-scary. The man in front of me in the cinema jumped so much he nearly dinted the ceiling though, so maybe I was wrong!
Robbie Loving 17-01-2005, 23:37 it was ok, but im realy not in to films like that!!!
i dint think it was scary at all, far from it, couple of parts obviously jumpy, but thats it!!
as for the grudge.... that was a poor film,!!!! for complete "jumpyness" you wanna see texas chainsaw masacre..... OH YES
seen it liked it, very thought provoking and no i won`t be leavin any recorders runnin when i go to bed thankyouverymuch!!!!!
pretty_polly 22-02-2005, 14:35 I saw the The Grudge and I thought that film was scary - White Noice was scary but not as much as The Grudge. The women from the The Grudge looks like the women in The Ring. Spooky.
Agent Gypo 22-02-2005, 14:51 It would be nice to see some horror films that weren't either sequels, poor imitations of classics or remakes of Japanese films for a change.
The Grudge remake, like The Ring, was too glossy and very cheesy in parts.
I've also got The Unexplained but it was printed around 1994 onwards and I built up the collection over time. All the same sort of things in there, including EVP. perhaps a reprint of the original like from DeAgostini.
It's because of all the things I've read and heard over the years that I won't try it. Don't think I could forget whatever I heard.
Tried a ouija board once, that was kind of a non-event.
My pc did something weird with a voice last night, for no reason whatsoever it suddenly said 'Type whatever you like ....something something something'. Happened about 5 times all in all.
I spent ages looking to see what site could be making the noise

I got that mag in 1981 and definetly remember the free flexi disc with the voices from beyond the grave.
Can't remember the full facts but their was people on it who were English alive but were speaking to thir relatives in German or some other language.
Their was also a German accent on it repeating the words Winston Churchill, WINSTON CHURCHILL!
To this day I remember that as it scared the **** out of me (I was only 11).
I used to hide the disc under the bed and then could'nt sleep as It was under there:loopy:
Can't recall as to wether the mag claimed the voice was of Winston Churchill or Adolf Hitler.
Did'nt like the tall skinny monkey picture that was in a issue as well.

I thought that was Peter Andre?
LesMcQueen 22-02-2005, 15:38 Argh. The 'Voices from the dead' flexi. That gave me nightmares for ages.
What freaked me out about it was that they'd managed to record a single word, but kept repeating it over and over again for clarity. Made it sound quite demonic
I don't think the '94 re-issue had the flexi disc.
"STALIN STALIN STALIN"
I haven't been scared as such by a film for years, but I associate Miffy Bags with 'Dark Water' in the same way as kids in red raincoats remind me of 'Don't Look Now'

I like the film SAW as well - very good. A bit of a sick film though, not your normal scary film I thought. Still very cleverly done.
