have just had my bathroom fully tiled (floor and wall) by a guy and he does painting and decorating too - he has done most of my house, works hard to a great standard and for very reasonable rates - PM me if you want his number - MsB

I would suggest have a go yourself - it's not that difficult with a little help from one of your friends

buy a decent tile cutter and some paint stuff and have a go - it can be fun !!

If the room's full of furniture and best axminster, they may be deliberately quoting themselves out of a job. It happens if you're rude or arrogant to them too. Does it need stripping first? That's the big time consumer - so offer to strip yourself if that's the case, and see if that makes a difference. ;)

erm hello......... i'm polite to everybody, am one of those suckers who couldn't be rude if i tried.

We've moved house recently and have no money so the rooms are all empty... never mind posh axminster, not even any window coverings so its all easy work.

I think being a woman the guys just think i'm thick and will accept any quote..........boo:mad:

anyway if anybody else can help:help:

A simple rule if you are getting quotes for work to be done
Get three quotes
Also if it's a big or expensive job ask for references

Tiling does seem to be a pretty expensive job, much more expensive than decorating or plastering the same area.
The quotes I had for my bathroom were around £25/square metre, so i've done it myself.

I don't think that they're any more expensive in Sheffield than elsewhere though.

they're certainly more expensive than the ones the House Doctor anne maurice manages to find for that programme she presents ...

I recently had no heating and i phoned a plumbing firm recommended by a relative as charging reasonable prices .... they came out the following day - two of them were in the house for less than 45 minutes - after a bit of messing about with the boiler, i suggested maybe they could look at the tanks, as the overflow had been dripping recently, they then found out that the header tank was empty ... changed the ball cock and charged me £75 .... as the ball cock cost £5.40 at the plumber's merchants at the end of my road ... i guess their hourly rate is around £45 per hour per person?

i was so stunned that i didn't even think to ask for a receipt ...
