What?
Google.com

Why?
Spend most of my time searching for stuff and it's faster than most of the "portals".

What?
www.thedvdforums.com

Why?
It usually has all the latest movie news, DVD news in one forum. Others have the latest computing music, tv... everything i could ever want. The people seem ok and for DVD trading its awsome :)

What?
about:mozilla

Why?
Internet Explorer loads lightning fast with a blue background.
(XP Tweak tip)
I suspect google would have the same effect though.

about:blank

This is quite simply because I never want the same website every time. Instead I have several common links in the "Links" toolbar and then use the favourites menu for other sites.

I also have the Google and Altavista toolbars installed, so if I want to search the web, I can use those as soon as my browser starts up - so no need to set my home page to Google...

:)

Thanks Tony! I was about to post thinking I'd be unique having the blank page as my homepage! The main reason I have it as blank is because I often open multiple windows and loading a website I don't need every time is pointless. I too have a links bar set up with my most visited/useful sites on.

What?
Whatever I was looking at in my last browser session.

Why?
I want to continue reading the information, or I was just too lazy to close the tabs last time.

www.weather.com
I'm obsessed with the weather. I can't leave the house without checking it out every morning. I have to see the local radar for signs of rain, what the temperature is going to be, humidity etc.
I gauge my whole day on what the weather is going to be like. Do I park in the shady spot at the back of the carpark or near the front door of work?
Now that's sad!

No mate - either Opera, or Mozilla Firebird. Been a big fan of Opera for a few years now, and Mozilla Firebird is also coming along pretty well

I've got myyahoo! as my homepage. Over the past couple of months it has just got better and better.

I noticed on another thread that Google do a personal homepage now too.

MSN also have a nifty looking one. For the meantime I'm sticking with Yahoo! as I know where everything is and it seems the fierce competition between the big players is going to keep on benefiting us.

Does anyone have any other homepages worth recommending?

(ahem... apart from SheffieldForum of course)

I used to have a homepage with links on that someone created for me, but don't bother now...

Now I have TUTV portal - someone has a domain of TUTV.co.uk, and I have some links on therethat I regularly use - www.tutv.co.uk; then have the main sites I use as my favourites.

I have never had one before but have just added one.

it is a Yahoo group i set up a couple of years ago but have since handed on because I could no longer be bothered to give it proper attention.

It currently has over 1500 members. Not bad.

Contains direct links to many sites & domains that I need regular access to (saves me having a load of bokmarks).

I have a page I wrote myself with all of my most used links, search boxes for things I use the most (Google, Amazon, Ebay) and several boxes showing RSS feeds from common news sites I look at (The Register, Slashdot, BBC news etc).

Oh, and a couple of the traffic pics from the council website so I can see what traffic is like near work for when I go home.

It's a bit cluttered but it does the job: http://img129.imageshack.us/my.php?image=desktop9rc.gif

Currently Google, but I'm tinkering with some portal software that I might try and develop semi-commercially.

Within a few weeks (I hope) I might change it to the portal so I can give the software some 'clog'. :)

Why Google - it loads up quickly and I often end up searching for soemthing - or just coming straight here.

Nah,

It's literally just a blank page.

Although...it MIGHT be a piece of spyware cunningly disguised as a blank page... ;)

It's Friday, time to spread soem Fear, Uncertainty and Doubt! :D

I used to use a page with lots of links on, however that looked cluttered - now I use the TUTV Portal that a friend started-up, along with my bookmarks. (http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b157/kentboy/tutvportal.jpg)

Honestly! Sometimes I don't know wether I'm coming or going on here.

I googled it and got this result (http://www.google.com/search?sourceid=navclient&ie=UTF-8&rls=DVXA,DVXA:2005-19,DVXA:en&q=about%3Ablank)

Are google suggesting it's dangerous on purpose because it's a rival search engine?

Fear and doubt prevail.:suspect:

The about: blank Home Page CAN be hijacked by spyware to point to a dodgy search page.

Just as some web sites will change your Hoem Page without asking, so the about:blank one can be subverted as well.

But the legitimate use of about:blank to produce a blank home page is perfectly OK.

And I just LOVE to wind people up on a Firday evening. :D

Mine is currently www.sheffieldforum.co.uk on account of the fact I got kicked off my previous home site and the other site I had started to frequent closed down.

So there ya go - another sad person to add to the list.

Mine is Sky News (http://www.sky.com/skynews/home) . I just like to know what's happening in the UK and around the world. I then navigate from my favourites, of which The Forum (http://www.sheffieldforum.co.uk/?s=) is usually my first port of call.
