Hi, just wondering if, like me, anyone on here collects old used postcards?
I am new to the hobby but have bought 10 up to now, all from eBay. They all date early 1900's and a few have the same sender and recipient. I realise some may see it as quite a geeky hobby but I find it fascinating! My favourite so far is a postcard showing the original Weston Park gates, the ones that were stolen.
I’m looking for some pointers on where to find more, as eBay and other internet sites can be a tad expensive with P&P added to each card, and hopefully some hints and tips from fellow collectors.
Hope someone out there can help!
Melanie

hi :)

I cant remember for the life of me whether it is The X Shop or The Front Parlour, (both very close to each other on Sharrow Vale Road, S11) but they sell loads of old, written-on postcards from around here, for between 50p and £2..

Other than that, have you tried the old shop on the outside of Castle Markets?

There are numerous postcard fairs around the country, theres one at least once a year at Don Valley Stadium, but unfortunately whilst theres many traders, lots with local postcards, they're usually expensive sometimes £14 to £35 per postcard, but its well worth the visit. I believe the next fair at Don Valley is June 25th 2005

I've found using ebay the most economical way. Typical post card at a fair costing approx £14 can be found on ebay for as little as 99p or a few pounds.

see www.postcard.co.uk

Try the market stalls in Chesterfield - Thursday is the junk (antique) day. There was a stall that had nothing but such cards and old photos.
