Hi, I have just had new UPVC doors which are brill, until I realsied that my cat now cant come in and out as she likes and it is beginning to drive me mad as when she wants to go out she tells me at ANY point of the day or night!

does anyone know what to do in this situation or know of how you can fit a cat flap into a upvc door or better still, someone who cant do it?
thanks.

Yes it's possible, if the place you want to put it is uPVC and not glass. I think it's usual to order it with the door though...

Cat flaps are easy to fit and can even be put in glass doors as-well if you wanted. You will need to drill and saw the hole out though... I've fitted a couple but wouldn't do anyone elses - my DIY mistakes slightly out weight my successes at the mo lol :)

Briano A new upvc door will have double glazed glass. My friend had a catflap put through one of these. I think it cost her £150. Through the upvc should be a DIY job, so long as it's not a super-secure one with internal steel bars or something!

I have a UPVC door without a cat flap and a very annoying pussy who likes also to go out at anytime of night or day and doesn't mind letting me know. He has taken to pulling himself up onto the door so he can look in at me and let me know he wants to come in-My door has a glass panel at the top and he hooks his claws into the rubbr seal to hang on long enough for me to see him and let him in. Perhaps he can help you!!

Miss Norks, that is very funny, clever things arnt they? the only problem is we only have a very small window at the top and I dont think she will reach it!

so are you guys telling me you can just drill into UPVC and cut a hole for the cat flap as though the door was wood????

arrrrhhhhhhhhh

A search revealed this:

Staywell cat flaps (http://www.catflaps.com/en-gb/dept_2.html)

which states that they are purrfect for fitting into upvc doors.

Good luck.

Normally the lower part of the PVCu door (ie the bit of the inset panel below the glass part, if glass is fitted) is simply a composite of 2 sheets of PVCu with a poly extrusion (polystyrene type product) sandwiched in between.

It will cut dead easy to fit a flap in, and if you get to the time where you are moggyless in the future, you can always buy a new inset panel to replace the existing one.

arrrrhhhhhhhhh Yes, that's why I asked if it's a super-secure one. Thieves enjoy drilling their way through the pvc panels. Sod the super-dooper multi-point locking mechanism the salesman told you about...

Yes Curly_A it is very funny- looks even funnier to anyone who's never seen him do it particularly from the outside when someone walks past and sees him hanging from the back door!
Very clever are those pussies!! Off the subject slightly but can anyone tell me why when I bring something new into the house, for example I recently bought a new duvet, does my cat feel a need to crap on it. I treat him well, he's litter trained he has no nuts. I know about cats being very territorial and needing to scent things but why crap on things? Why not a simple rub of the head on my duvet? Such insolence!

HI there, a bit off topic but a good book on why cats do things like that is Cat Confidential by Vicky Halls

but saves you money both now (ie the cost of the catflap) and in the future (ie not having to feed the furball).... :-)

That it would. How about I pop him in a bag, tie it up, weight it down and throw him in the Don??!! Problem solved all round:loopy:
