NIck-Nack 13-09-2007, 11:55 She is coming back to play sheffield towards the end of october at a new venue at the students union, tickets should be available already i think, i'll try to find a link...
I thought her songs were a bit dull to be honest, but she had a nice voice.
She was ok, but nowhere near as charismatic, skilled or entertaining as the man himself! Another great gig Richard. I love the fact that he's so down to earth and seems genuinely touched by the amount of supporters he has in Sheffield!
NIck-Nack 13-09-2007, 13:40 it's had to stand up before the man himself and do your thing infront of two thousand plus people, to see her in more comfortable circumstance you could come to this...

Yep - I thought she was good, Hawley was on top form, as ever.
shakermaker 13-09-2007, 14:47 a bit dull... went and had a pint of export instead
hawley was great though
Saw her supporting John Power (I think it was) in the Boardwalk a while back. Dull is the word I would use also.
Then again I'd say Richard Hawley is extremely dull too. One of the most over-rated artists ever. I can't believe the praise continually heaped upon him. Yes he seems a good bloke, and yes he's from Sheffield but so what.
I saw her at the boardwalk a couple of months ago, I liked about 4 of hersongs but the rest were a bit samey and dull. How old is she, she looked a lot younger than she sounds?

23 I believe. She recovered well after having to twice retune her guitar for one particular song - something to do with it only having 12 frets I think

Each to their own I suppose, but have you actually taken the time to listen to any of his albums, been to any of his concerts or watched the many vids (both live bootleg and official) on YouTube? Admittedly (for me anyway) I do have to be in a melancholy mood to fully enjoy his stuff but since I heard Baby You're My Light being pushed by Mark and Lard a fair few years ago on Radio1 I have followed his new career. I eventually bought Coles Corner out of curiosity and I must admit that I didn't think much to it at the first listen but after a while it started to grow on me and I began to really appreciate his incredible voice and the guitar work. I went to his first concert last December at the City Hall and am proud to have witnessed an incredible night. The new album, Lady's Bridge, is more or less much of the same kind of stuff but just as good as Coles Corner, and again I had to listen to it a few times before I started to appreicate it. Last night at the City Hall he again showed just how genuine and talented he is - no need for studio 'tricks' to make him sound good, he just is, and the sell-out crowd demonstrated that with their enthusiasm for the performance.
Me and my bloke went to the gig on Wednesday and agree that Mr Hawley was on top form. It's a shame that we had to wait until he'd finished watching the footie before he came on! Now Kate was something else. Yes, she can obviously hold a tune and play her instument, but she needs to work on the lyrics. She lost us on the Firework song, which was a load of rubish. It sounded like a complaint letter to the Star by an OAP! along the lines of '' fireworks get louder and more frequent every year, I have to stay in and make sure my Dog doesn't bark too loudly and annoy the people next door''. So like Shakermaker we headed to the Bar for the rest of her set.
Kate Walsh wasn't bad, especially after the guy who was on before her. Does anyone know who he was? My mate and I had to make a quick exit after he tried to hit a couple of high notes
Richard Hawley was brilliant as usual. I think he was even better than in December. If you want a reminder of the gig you can go to

(with the same banter as at Sheffield as well, including the slightly risque doctor joke)
