Hi I will be in Sheffield for about 2 hours next wednesday am (3rd Sept) Can anyone tell me which is the best fabric shop to visit if I only have time for one.

what sort are you after? theres asian fabric shops, cheap market stalls, high quality interior textiles, fire retardant upholsterers...

Sorry you are right I was not very specific...I make costumes and am always on the look out for good suppliers of dress fabric..I do like the asian fabric shops as I need to get value for money!
so any recommendations would be welcome

Try Page Hall its on the 75/76 bus routes near the Northern General Hospital. There are several good asian shops there. Ashards is the biggest and do some good deals on roll ends and remnants. Also have good selection of threads and fancy trims. The other shops do lots of costume jewellry and hair accessories.

asian shops: london/abbeydale rd's yer best bet. cheap and friendly people in those shops too.

or get on a plane to south east asia (get last min flights for £200 on net) - i had clothes made in goa and kerala (india) but as they didn't pre-wash the material on 40 in a washing machine they shrank when i got them home, doh! also thailand is fab for silks etc.
