Here's an unusual one! Does anybody out there still say prayers at bedtime?
Heres one I remember from being a kid
Matthew, Mark, Luke and John
bless the bed that I lay on
should I die before I wake
I pray my soul the lord to take
My favourite was Christopher Robbin's - it contained the line: 'God bless Granny, and make her good'!

I remember this one too. Cheery thing for a kid to say on a nightly basis! As they try to get to sleep, the last thing in their mind is that contingency plans have been made with God in case they don't ever wake up again...
:loopy:
There was also:
Jesus, Mary and Joseph, I give you my heart and my soul.
And made-up ones mainly, in my house!

And the song ring a ring a roses is about the plague. It amazes me how dark some of this stuff is that we teach children.

I totally agree!
Years ago when I was babysitting, the 4 yr old girl I was with asked me to read her a fairy tale without a baddie in it...
The only one I could come up with from her huge compendium of fairy tales, was the Princess and the Pea (http://childhoodreading.com/Edmund_Dulac_and_Gus/Princess_and_the_Pea.html)
Poor love was scared by any story with a baddie in it, and as a result could not deal with the vast, vast majority of her bedtime reading books.:shakes:

I suppose the misguided belief that good always triumphs over evil gets most people through life.

Nope, don't say prayers at all.

I knew it as:
If I die before I wake, I pray the Lord my soul to take,
If I die whilst in my sleep, I pray the Lord my soul will keep....
