Does anybody know if this place is open all day?

As far as i know it is... i've heard people talking about having lunch there... :?

It always is when I go down to Sharp's, the greengrocer's next door. I remember being heckled by some horrible chav women one afternoon a while back. >:(

they do a great value sunday carvery! the meat is lovely, veg is a bit soggy though but the choice of meats are fab and delicious.

Yes Dempseys is open all day.

They serve food until the late hours in the evening.

I quite like their food, but I can guess that someone will come on ere and slag it off, mainly cause thats all they do, lol

Where is Dempseys?

Bottom of the moor between the yorkshire bank and the fruit shop.
At night it stays open until 1 or 2am as a members only gay club.

You can become a member on the night, I think it is £1 and you have ya photo taken.

Fridays and Saturdays it is open till 2am, which is not very late compared to Xes`s 4am closing time.

I just like finding a friendly pub where I can drink until 2 am without the usual idiots knocking around

it is a cleaner place now compared to 2000? it was scruffy then? and smelt. had my engagement there. didnt realise it opened til 2am.

I only go to Dumpseys occasionally when I go out with a mate of mine who doesn't like clean, modern, tastefully decorated straight bars that don't smell of chip fat and wet ashtrays.

i know plenty of gay bars that are clean friendly and nice smelling heheh! i think its cos dempseys is at bottom of moor where its scruffy and smelly:D

Myself and the Imposter visited Dempseys last night around half 5. It was ok, the beer wasn't too bad and suprised to see theakstons on draught.

The bar itself looked like a cross betweena cafe and a pub.

I wouldn't say its the worst pub we'd ever been in but if thats representative of the type of gay bar available in sheffield i feel its a pretty poor showing.

There are better gay pubs than Dempseys (no surprise Nick2 slagged it off, he does that on most other threads LOL, he provides us with the entertainment on here).

There is Xes on Carlisle Street which is open until either 3am/4am and plays good music.

Then there is Av-It Bar across the road from Xes and thats good also.

Plus Takapuna on West Street do a gay night on Thursdays (starting from 20th of January) which is quite trendy, but drinks are a bit expensive.

Now back to Nick2 (mr entertainment on ere) what nights did u go on, cause ive yet to find a wet ashtray or smelly chips, maybe you are going on the wring night.

Name us some gay Bars... I thought the Sheffield Gay Scene were crying out for them :?

Other then VIP on a weekly & Climax on a monthly basis :)

I guess the problem is that I have been to other cities where they have a real gay scene not just a couple of shoddy pubs in the crappiest parts of town, and now I'm spoiled.

I would rather stay at home than go to Dumpseys, I disslike the place that much, but each to their own i guess.

When there are so many cool pubs in Sheffield I can't understand why anyone would choose to go to one of these pubs.

Its not what the pub looks like .its the friendly atmosphere with people enjoying them selfs havin a good night out that counts
i love going when i get the chance and its a bonus if ur hungrey late on as they still do food up to closing id like to go to the climax nights ive heard they are very good but just not had the chance to go there yet :-( but keep hopin il get there 1night :-)

I can name some bars that attract more gay clientele then others. Ha Ha Bar and All Bar One are just two i can think of.

im on about leeds and manchester - far better for the scene dont you think?
sheffield is a bit clueless a min. VIP is gonna be good but XES is mmmmm?!?
i remember BED and GC used to be so friendly and no one cared who was whatever and it was a happy place

Yeah Manc is brilliant - love Via Fossa's and Manto's, and even the New Union on occasions....!

Sheffield does need more choice though, but I'm sure that's been said a million times before on here.

im a huge fan of queens court, i love leeds! come on sheffield get it sorted!!!! manch - canal st is just fabulous too

I visited this pub and being a straight man I dint know what too expect. I found the place friendly enough but if this is all Sheffield hads got to offer the gay scene in the town centre it is a bit of a poor show.
