View Full Version : What nicknames do people have?
Hi, I was just wondering (as you do!) what odd nicknames people used to have as children, or indeed now as adults. For years my sister has refered to me as 'Slug', for reasons I have never dared question (and no, I'm not sure I want to hear any suggestions as to its possible origin either)! Since I started my PhD she also calls me The Student, I get loads of random things through the post just addressed to 'The Student' :)
Mine is the very boring Snook, I’m afraid. Although it is only people in a certain part of the world that call me by this name. I'm not exactly sure why that name was chosen, but the explanation was 'it was either that or s**thead. So I didn't argue.
DaBouncer 09-01-2005, 17:59 Diggler was the only nickname I've ever had.
When I was a kid I was slightly...ummmm....weightier than I am today. I'm still no sylph, I should add...:)
Anyway...I used to play rugby at school and played full back. My nickname for a while was weeble - partially because of my shape, but partially because, like weebles, I wobbled but didn't fall down when tackled. :)
And for those too young to remember :

I was known as Weedol for about two years (no sensible reason, just a brotherly thing), then Spike (I had spiky hair).
Ant is the one that stuck (Anthony).
Squashie28 09-01-2005, 19:12 My boyfriend calls me Farts, he even introduced me to his parents as Farts, I swear I wanted the ground to open up and swallow me.
When my brother was small, he couldn't pronounce my first name properly. It came out sounding like "Nessie". Which didn't really bother me, until everyone found out it was the nickname for the Loch Ness monster.
Every once in awhile, I still see someone I grew up with who calls me Nessie.
:) Sierra
at school i was called screwy, because my surname is driver (dohhh). At work a patient took to calling me pozzi, i didnt get that for ages untill someone told me (hav i spelt that right). Now im called the student by my mates, just because i became a student at 32

LOL - nah actually it was Diggler.
I loved the nick name to be fair but it came from the fact my name is Kirk (like Dirk).
However it's still a decent nick name.
bigdave1979 09-01-2005, 21:15 one of my mates was called portland bill cause his dad was a coast guard anyone remember the show
My boyfriend calls me Farts,
Squashie28, is there any particular reason why he calls you that? :hihi: :hihi:
helenem2004 10-01-2005, 13:58 My older brother still calls me lil boon,
it started off when i was a baby n he said i had a chubby face n sticky up hair like a baboon (he's lovely isn't he?) So he called me booner, boon, boontop n now its just 'lil boon'.
Yodameister 10-01-2005, 14:03 Yoda, because someone once misheard my name as Yoda.
I'm not going into my names at school, as I really don't want to remember.
Suffice it to say, none of them were very complimentary.
christine 10-01-2005, 14:06 My nickname's Crow. Or Crocky (as in Grotbags' sidekick).
Thanks to my two big sisters for those...
When I went to uni I felt being called Christine by everyone was just too formal - I kept thinking I was in trouble as the only people who called me Christine were my teachers and dad!
So I'm still Crow (but not at work) ;-) .
