You may recall the video I did of the River Don at the Niagra Wier after the flooding in June.. It broke my heart to see the state of the river if you missed it the vid is HERE (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QhFsn94nsTY).

Well today I went back with Gemma and the local councillors and the area panel. What did we find?

The EA have worked a miracle. ALL the debris has gone, the river looks the best it ever has, we have a lovely bank and the river is accessible - we could even go paddling :D

So next job is to get it seeded with wildflowers, stick some picnic benches in and make it our own little secret Rivelin.

Top marks to the EA! You did a sterling job

Edit to link to the new pictures  LINKY (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IjctP1kVJYk)

err, we are in the upper don and not part of the 5 wiers walk ... Yet ;) and the clear up has been done by heavy plant due to the vastness of the stone that had accumulated there.

However well done to the vols who helped with the 5 wiers walk. ::thumbsup:

That's excellent news Fox!

I do hope they do something with our bit before any bad weather though as there's several hundred tons of trees and debris ready to wash downriver and ruin it again :(

Coronation Park in Oughtibridge has finally reopened after the flood damage and I must say the parish council and volunteers have done a brilliant job there too!

There are trees atop the wier which have moved down from Oughti' but not so many as to cause a problem yet, but I reckon they are on top of it. There is also a pumping station as the connection to the main drain from Winn was severed in the flood :gag: but the river now looks crystal clear from where I was standing.

Oh and the Winn G young people have put the clearway to good use and have built a BMX jump out of an old tyre and some dirt so they are having a ball.

(it is allowed to ride bikes isn't it? Remembering that all WG young people are apparently thugs and drug users ;) )

I think that's great news. Does it mean that some areas won't get flooded again ? :) If it is, then it's fantastic news!

well tbh, the river is as wide as it should have been had it not been for natural islands being allowed to develop over the years (which some would say is the way it should develop) so I would be surprised if it did flood again.

You can do it!:thumbsup: It could be much more attractive, but I think cctv is needed to catch the limbrains who chuck shopping trolleys, tyres and assorted rubbish in. :shakes:

the water is very very shallow there and it would be a picnic spot akin to those at Rivelin but without the drop as its now a lovely beach type bank.

And tbh, the local children have been raised with river awareness so I don't see that as an issue.

Looks like they've done a grand job there Fox. How do you get to Niagara by the way? Can you get through the estate or do you need to go around by the Fletcher's site?

Thank you foxy....another fine video with an excellent backing track I might add......you are getting really good at this video making.....and I have recommended you on YouTube to friends and family outside of Sheffield so they too can see the devastation to Winn Gardens.......so thank you.....and I bet your young 'un loves to tell his friends that he is on YouTube. He's a little star. :D

It is good to see the area looking - from what I see - better than it was before.....was going to take my lad down to see it before he went back to Margate but time got away from us and we didn't go....I am going to take a walk down there to look tomorrow....you never know I might even go for a paddle! :D

Claywheels side is a massively steep banking, the Winn side at the edge of the football pitches as you can see is so wonderfully accessible I already asked for the area panel to put in a bid for a wheelchair ramp ;)

Oh children children, the Environment Agency are responsible for ther reparation of the waterways in the flood hit areas, bugger all to do with me, but I am grateful all the same.

Give Winn a flippin' break for five minutes and bask in the beauty that is our collective waterway restored to more than its former glory!

edit: and you will note my plea at the end to do the same for Hillsborough too!

Actually Barmy, after a few moments of stewing that really irks me that you have to post such a negative comment!

WHY?
