Just to say thanks to the old idiot in the silver Honda who nearly ran my 18month daughter and my self off the road today.

He was travelling in the inside lane on St. Mary's Road, the lane where you have to go left onto Shoreham Street and I was in the middle where I could also go onto Shoreham St or carry straight on as what is what I was doing. But instead of following the road round he decided to go straigh on nearly forcing me off the road as the lights were on green so both were going at a reasonable speed.

I beeped as you do so he knew I was there, thinking nothing new today then. So the guy winds down his window (don't get me wrong I make mistakes, not life threatening though and I hold my hands up where needed), and I was expecting a sorry at the least and in turn was going to say no real damaged done, forget about it. Instead he says what's your problem. So I tell him how the lane he was in was for left only and he says 'oh, and I suppose you know it all?' Thank god I was not turning left as well or it would have been a different story.

What an arrogant old w****r, what winds me up the most is he had no idea what he had done, and because I was yonger he thought I was in the wrong. Now the only good thing is (and some might think this is off but remember he shows no regret for what was a very dangerous bit of driving that involved a baby) that if we all manage to avoid him for a couple of years then, because of his age, maybe then he will be off the road for good.

So, if you have an elderly relative who was on this road about 10ish with one female passenger who thought his journey to the train station was that much more important than others safety could you perhaps ask him if it's not a good idea to give up driving?

The end.

There is something a bout a lot of drivers in sheffield.. they are complete nutters!!! I remember walking accross a pedestrian crossing at the same time as maybe 10-20 other people.. this arse comes screetching around the corner and almost takes us all out like some bowling pins..

He then had the ignorance to start mouthing off to ALL of us.. I mean what the hell is going on.. So many drivers are just forever moaning about me crossing a road too quickly or two slowly when they don't even bother to indicate their intentions.. it drives me batty!!

Not stopping at zebra crossings gets my goat. I was waiting to cross the other night and the car coming from my right stopped and waved me across. The car coming from my left kept going and the driver was on her mobile, she never even saw me or the crossing she was that intent on her conversation :rant:

I agree. And I spend a lot of time driving. The amount of idiots on the road is scary. I don't usually complain about them (or I'll be forever complaining) but the pure cheek of this one. Luckily though I was cautious this time because I saw someone do it to another driver the other day.

Like I said I'm no perfect driver, but some of the antics are just purely dangerous and selfish. I like to think they are the minority but they are the one's that stick in your mind.

For showing me that not all old drivers are responsible road users as they wish us to believe

alot of the older generation drivers are as bad as the young chavs on the road nowadays, too many people seem to be always rushing to get to places and dont give two hoots about other car users and the safety of the other road users, you now need to have eyes in the back of your head as well as the side of your head to see what other drivers are doing, otherwise you get cut up or sideswipe by them, its a mad world we live in these days

The only difference being is that a younger driver is more likely to be pulled up, especially at night when the older generation are at home with their slippers on thinking to themselves how they did not fight in the war to be told where and how they can drive. Also, I would not be surprised, after this encounter, if many of the older drivers get pulled over they try and play the old dear act, because this one looked the part but certainly was not.

true true. i agree with you, but like i said in my previous thread, it is a mad world we live in.
i get pulled over several times a week by the police, to do checks on the vehicle and all because i drive what police class as a drug dealers car and yes i have been told that by one police officer, nearly peed my pants when he said that, when you phone up to complain, i get told you should think you are lucky that the police are looking out for your car as if it got stolen, i would get it back quicker. yeah right!!!!

Elderly drivers can be a real menace, I think a lot of them just rely on everyone else to make allowances for them and give way. Just this morning I saw some old fool join a roundabout in the right hand lane then take the first exit, cutting across two lanes of traffic, then he looked around in open-mouthed astonishment as everyone around him hit their horns.

My Dad had the grace and common sense to voluntarily give up his car in his seventies while he was still sharp enough to realise his driving skills were deteriorating. I wish more would do that.

I think I can beat that, Lee!
A few weeks ago I was standing on the pavement opposite the golf shop on Queens Road, waiting for the pelican lights to change.
Pays you to be a bit more careful than normal there, what with the contraflow system, but eventually the lights turned in my favour and the traffic started pulling up accordingly.
Half-way across, I spotted some pillock in a moss-green Range Rover coming out of the Jersey Road junction, between the golf shop and the opticians (!).
Not only is it signed "turn left only" but the road is deliberately curved to remind the driver.
Did this stop our boy?
Did it buggery...
Had the cheek to fling his wheel to the right, and head straight for me - bear in mind he is going through red lights too.
More in shock than anything, I mouthed something suitable at him, before scampering out of his way..
Next thing I knew, he'd braked and was now straddling the crossing, wound his window down, and said "Well, there's no need for that language!"

i was out walking to pooch on sunday on jaunty lane basegreen and this learner driver came down seagrave, kerbed it on the bend, mounted the pathway and then went back onto the road, nearly hitting a bus stop on the way of, what the hell was the instructor doing, knitting !! maybe closing there eyes, if someone had been at the bus stop they'd have been wiped out, did the instructor pull them up did they buggery carried on as if nthing had happened, well shocked.no wonder we have drivers on the roads like we do with instructors like that one

i think these days that driver instructors are out to make money, when i was taking lessons many moons ago, instructors were few and far between, now everywhere you go, you will see someone on a lesson and the instructors now teach them to drive like rally drivers and not to give a hoot about other road users. i had one the other day in front of me, i was at a safe distance, then all of a sudden, the learner slammed the brakes on and decided to turn right, then left, i didnt know if i was coming or going because after all that they when straight on. bsm and bill green instructors are good at that. and with the older generation i think a law should be brought in that when you reach 60 they should take tests every year to see if they are still capable to be on the roads.

To be honest I think I attract them. For example, Monday, sat at some lights with another guy behind me also stationary, then bang, the guy had gone into the back of me. When we pulled up on another part of the road he said sorry but he took his foot of the break while talking to his mate.

Then today, I was on the A57, on my way to Catcliffe from Cyrstal Peaks, I came to where the tear shape build up in the road forms a sort of round about, where your only option is to exit onto the Parway, where the roadworks are when a women in a maroon car decided she was not going to look right when coming off of the slip road, instead she was going to stare at the lorry in front (that made me have to slow down as it was going slow, but you make allowances for that) and just follow it straight out causing me to have to come to a stand still in order to carry on onto the Parkway. Then she decided to keep swapping lanes, I believe, thinking I was going to overtake her so trying to stop me. And then when I left for Catcliffe she was waving at me!

i had the same problem yesterday coming up hollisend road towards manor top, was in the left hand lane, i signal to go in the right hand lane, then a t**t in the right lane decided to slam the brakes on, luckily i was able to stop, but all the way down prince of wales he was swerving all over the road and switching lanes but staying in the middle of the road and slamming the brakes, must have it in for women drivers, or he didnt like the fact my car was nicer then his, he was lucky i didnt go into the back of him with the way he was driving, but i left enough stopping distance and i was doing the correct speed, but he was a complete idiot, he needs to take a retest, because he would fail. road rage at its best :loopy:

I was once crossing a road in Ilkley at a pedestrian crossing where the lights were in my favour.

Halfway across they started to change, a situation in which the pedestrian is still entitled to make it across the road without being run over.

The last driver I had to pass to reach the pavement started sounding his horn, so I just stopped and stood in the road in front of him as if to ask him what all the fuss was about.

Strangely enough he shut his gob and drove meekly off after that.

Arrogant tw*t!:hihi:

I can confirm that Shoreham Street is an accident hotspot. Three years ago I was knocked down and killed by a silver honda in that very place.

That's what winds me up the most. When I make a mistake I feel bad about it, and if possible apoligise by raising my hand or whatever is appropriate like the majority of people would. But the handful that think the roads are there for their exclusive use are impossible to reason with.
