View Full Version : Mystery cat prey?

Dorrie often brings in voles and mice from outside, which I find on the carpet (ah, the joys of owning a cat), but I've found something unusual on three different occasions.

It's about twice the size of a kidney bean, and the same shape, pale pink and usually slightly bloody. This morning there was one on the kitchen floor, and it looked like Dorrie had batted it about as it was in the middle of some light smears of dried blood.

I have three theories, but I'm pretty flummoxed. I'm thinking it could be (a) some kind of rodent intestine or internal organ; (b) something Dorrie has regurgitated; or (c) maybe I have a rodent in my house that's giving birth on the floor and it's a fetus or something.

It's very weird, and kind of gross. Has anyone ever seen something similar, or know what it might be?

It sounds like a baby mouse or something to me. Do you know where the cat is fetching them from? One of my girlies brings me headless frogs :gag:

There's a meadow/scrubland behind the house, I figure she gets all her prey from there. I'm just glad there's no ponds or lakes for her to find frogs in!

My smudge tends to bring creatures home, eats them but leaves the hearts or brains or some disgusting inner part of the body, its gross :gag:

Sounds very much like a new baby rodent to me :(

Next time one appears, have a look for stubs of limbs?

My Mum's cat developed a taste for rat heads....left the rest of the body somewhere about the house!

The vets told me that if they started bringing things into the house it was because they are trying to tell you that there is something lacking in their diet. Their bodies are urging them to find what is missing. Not sure how correct that is but when I incresed the amount of fish they had each week she stopped bringing in the frogs

Its probably either a baby rabbit kidney or a rat kidney, mine used to eat everything but these and bring me the kidney as the "gift".

vile :gag:

My cat doesn't bring anything home. She has a diet of tuna and Go-Cat biscuits - is that why, or is she just lazy?

Could be laziness. My puster is too old, fat and lazy to do anything these days :hihi:

It sounds like the insides of some minibeast. My cat used to leave them for me all the time - everything else was perfectly tasty except this odd organ with sometimes a little dangle of guts attached...

Sounds like a baby mouse to me, a 'pinkie' like what are fed to young hatchling snakes.
