Good evening, I've seen plenty of threads about kickboxing etc but I'm just wondering if there are any places that teach Muay Thai and BJJ? Private lessons as well. Any help appreciated.

Protekt 09-09-2007, 18:41 The Wicker Camp in Sheffield is one of the best traditional Muay Thai gyms in the country and gives both group and individual private lessons and public classes. WWW.WickerCamp.com I train there about 5 sessions a week and love the place, the decor isn`t exactly Fitness First though :hihi:. sparkydope 09-09-2007, 18:55 Cheers mate. I've just read a few things about how some of the people are a bit arrogant or only go there to chat up the women etc. Not sure how a fresh Southerner would be welcomed, hence I'm willing to fork out for private lessons if I have to. Never seen it AT ALL and I train there a lot, their are several European and World Champions training there and they are definately not arrogant. Mick who owns the Wicker simply would not tolerate it. Just pop down to a begginer class, give it a try, i would say i am quite a bit older than most and have felt welcome from day one. yorkie030 11-09-2007, 14:45 Never seen it AT ALL and I train there a lot, their are several European and World Champions training there and they are definately not arrogant. I strongly agree with Protekt- I’ve been a couple of times to Mick's in the early nineties & he had quality fighters then & has duly gone from strength to strength ever since! ;) All I can say that if you want to learn from the best in Muay Thai in Sheffield then you must go to the Wicker Camp, as they’re totally professional & a great set of guys. BarraGergus 11-09-2007, 17:32 Gracie Barra for ALL your BJJ needs, pm me or contact John Goldson :-Telephone - 07738 588925 llll_fb_llll 12-09-2007, 09:43 Cheers mate. There are loads of people from the south who train at Wicker. Many are students from Sheffield Uni. We also have people from other countries, Poland, France, Germany etc Have a look at these to give a better idea of gym: http://www.wickercamp.com/ http://www.wickercamp.blogspot.com Kamble 13-09-2007, 15:47 Wicker Camp is the place to go, without a doubt. As has been stated already, Mick would not tolerate any sort of bad attitude in his gym, everybody there is really sound, very friendly and helpful to beginners. Your first lesson is free, give it a try! richardquinn 13-09-2007, 17:05 If you wish to train Muay Thai in its purest form then Wicker Camp is certanly the place to go. I know alot of the lads and lasses from there and couldnt find a bad word to say about them. For your BJJ why not try Royce Gracie Ju-Jitsu our website is www.bjjselfdefence.com We have a large range of students in build size and ability, there is also a number of the Lads who fight Amature and Semi Pro Mixed Martial Arts. PM me if you have any questions. Richard iamthemoon 14-09-2007, 11:04 hello mate, got to agree with all the previous posts. in my experience (no offense to anyone intended) it is better to train at a specialised gym, you want to do ground fighting - go to a BJJ class. you want to do kick boxing - go to a kick boxing class. luck for you sheffield has a world class kickboxing gym in wickercamp and two or three good ground fighting classes. i am not here to say mine is the best class because i havent tried them all, give them a go and se which yo like the best. good luck and i hope it all goes wel |
