Following on from the enjoyable walk we had around Eyam a few weeks ago, Fuzzle and myself are going to plan a walk for next Sunday going in a different direction, this time taking in some of the historical sites associated with the Great Plague.
Places of interest will include the Riley and Monpesson (spelling?) graves and the Boundary Stone which was the point at where the Eyam villagers cut themselves off from the outside world when they quarantined the village when the Plague affected it in the 1660's.
As well as the Plague sites a separate attraction in Eyam are the well dressings, and the walk will also take in the picturesque village of Stoney Middleton.
As before, the walk will commence at 10.15 from the church in the centre of Eyam to coincide with the arrival of the 65 bus which leaves Pond Street at 9.30.
If anyone wants a lift from town or even S6, I have 3 spare places in my car,

I'm sure most people know about Eyam and its' connection with the Plague, but an interesting article about the how the Plague affected Eyam, and information about places we will be passing on the walk such as Mompessons well, Riley graves and the Boundary stone can be obtained from the following website;-

Will a travel problem arise in regards to the current ' Foot & Mouth Disease ' be with us for this week-end?
From memory the last outbreak severe travel restrictions were in operation.

Good point Albert.
Quite a bit of the walk takes us on roads and tracks which shouldn't be affected come what may. If there are signs saying we can't enter the fields that we need to cross we'll stick to roads instead.
If the walk gets considerably shortened, we'll have no choice but explore the local hostelry!
Whatever happens we'll still have a cracking day out.

That was a joke.
Seriously though the last time ' Foot & Mouth Disease ' was in the area I'm almost certain that restrictions were put upon all non-essential travel.

Its a co-incidence that ' Eyam ' has been chosen out of all other places.

Any footpaths/bridlepaths etc that entered land grazed on by animals were closed with the last foot and mouth outbreak, with any "travel" into rural areas restricted to essential travel.
This time it is a more contained outbreak, with a known source.

I recieved an email this morning explaining the restrictions

What a lovely walk, I love Eyam, it's a beautiful place with some fantastic views from the hills.
Cheers Canada Girl for the cookies, they were gorgeous, and thanks to Fuzzle for leading the way so expertly.
See you all on Friday for the bowling, and next Sunday at wherever we end up.

What a smashing walk today, taking in all the sights and landmarks that Eyam has to offer. Some great company too.
Thanks to Fuzzle for leading us round so expertly, even if you did slip, slide and trip your way round :).
Nice to see newcomers Mal and Simon, hope you enjoyed it and join us again soon. Great also to welcome back Grissom and Albert after a long absence. Don't leave it so long next time chaps!

Thank you Fuzzle for a very enjoyable walk especially showing me a path that I did not know existed. I hope the continued walk to Stoney Middleton was as enjoyable for everyone else.
I think that we should do more figuire of eight walks simular to this.

Once again here I am thanking you all for a great day of walking, fun & banqueting.........! Pity we didn't have chips handy for the vinegar in stone eh, Scoobz.

An extra special thanks for your support & care (very much appreciated) when my Best Pal (4 legged) was attacked.

Wasn't it great to have our own Adventure Playground & apple tree at the Moon Inn in Stoney Middleton! Nice pub.

What a great day out! Good thing we didn't listen to the weather forcast cause it turned out to be beautiful! Thanks for leading this one Fuzzle - the graves were amazing.
Hope Tisney has made a full recovery - certainly made my heart stop for a few minutes there; poor thing must have been terrified!
Took poor Grisson on a bit of a senic route around Heeley trying to find the tram station (curse the one way streets!) so glad you got home OK!!

Looking forward to many more walks now that I'm a fully fledged Britain!!! YAY!!

Couldn't understand why the countryside was so quiet on such a fine sunny day! Thanks Fuzzle for a great walk though to the newcomers it must have been an odd walking group:hihi: basking (ok scoffing too!) on the village green and also relaxing in a delightful pub garden.

By the way the village shop cakes were to die for - i couldn't choose so had to buy 3 different cakes. Just having the second now! :)

No wonder i can't fasten my trou !
