I just wondered if it's away from the road and/or enclosed? Trying to think of somewhere to take the pooches to tire them out but don't want to end up walking onlead all the way!
Any other ideas greatly appreciated :D
The five weirs is suitable Lotti, but some of the walk dips back towards the roads in various places, so watch out for that. There's poop-bins on there, and when you get to the Salmon Pastures bit, there's a nice little nature reserve thing with benches. If you walk all the way along the five weirs, you can walk back on the canal, which is further from the road (although there will be a lot of fishermen!).

lotti,
I don't know what sort of condition the 5WW is in at the moment.
I know some of the paths were badly washed away in the floods, and were possibly quite dangerous. there was a lot of debris, too, which has had a bit of work done to shift it, although, again I don't know if it's fullly cleared. There was a day of action organised, to "blitz" it, and get some clearing done.
I would recommend proceeding with caution, if I were you.

I believe some of it is closed off. I saw a sign yesterday saying part of it was closed and there was a diversion. It is suitable for dogs though, I've seen many people with dogs coming out of the entrances.
Thanks guys we've decided on redmires reservoir instead for now! The canal was on our list for other walks but if there are lots of anglers it's quite possibly out... they don't seem to find it very amusing when Takara steals a mouth ful of bait :gag:
Thanks again for your speedy replies! A wealth of knowledge as ever!

A good walk away from all roads is around Treeton dyke. From Handsworth go towards Woodhouse mill, under the iron bridge and then down to the bottom of the hill. There is a landscape gardeners called Oxleys on the left and there is a short dead end road going in there. Park up there and the path starts at the end of the road going around a large lake which sometimes has water skiers on it and the only ttraffic might be some going down a ttrack to the skiers hut.
It takes about an hour to do the complete circuit at a slowish pace.
Surprised I didn't bump into you today! I have been out walking at Redmires reservoir today with the walking group.
Will have a think about places for you. There are loads I take Oz to to TRY and tire him out!
Sportsamn field is a good one if they catch balls and the field is quiet enough. We play baseball on there with Oz as only fielder. :hihi:
