I'm a big fan of Crystal Peaks for shopping and just wondered what other peoples thoughts were.

I much prefer a trip to Peaks compared with Meadowhall but I can't help noticing the markets don't really seem that good.

Do any of you use the markets and if so what other stalls do you think it is lacking?

I only use the market for getting pet tags engraved - i dont think the other stalls are up to much

it could do with more fashion stalls, and maybe some quirky home ware stalls.

With all the work that is being caried out a Peaks you'd think they would have put some effort into the market area. I know they've done up the entrance to the market but that's about it.

Are there any card stalls in there now?

I prefer crystal peaks to meadowhall and love the bread stall in the market area.

I think all the homeware stalls have been seen off by Wilkinsons. The card stalls seem to have dissapeared with the opening of the card warehouses etc within easy reach sorry I can`t remember the exact names of the shops.

It's one of the most depressing places I've been to. Shopping malls are grim places by rule but Crystal Peaks is the armpit of them all. It's a cultural vacuum, no real bookshop, no record shop, horrible clothes shops for people who want to model themselves on David Beckham or Colleen McLoughlin, just the same dull places you find anywhere else.

The card stalls were there, large as life, the other day, when I was in there....?

recall seeing any card stalls at all since
they opened card warehouse, the lady
who owned one of the card stalls retired

The hardware stall is useful for electrical bits and pieces etc.

I gather there's going to be a new permanent post office within the market: the country's only post office inside a market. It has also been billed as keeping the same opening hours as the rest of the market - so the country's only late opening PO too (on Thurs/Fri) ?

It needs a new fruit and veg stall, once there`s a bit of competition things might improve in that area.

There are too many cheap shops in Crystal Peaks - Wilko's, New Look, Card Factory etc etc. Market traders find it extremely difficult to compete with the likes of those stores on price of goods, so that's why the market's not very good in my opinion.

The card stall will have closed as a direct result of Card Factory opening I don't doubt - 5 cards for £1 - how can traders compete and still make a living? This is just one example obviously.

Customers wanting something "a little different" may not realise that it's very hard to make a living selling those types of things, i mean, how often do you buy those items?

I often buy our fish up there.

Although I think Crystal Peaks is a joke of a shopping centre, its market is great. The butchers, seafood and fishmongers are great with fresh food for less than at the supermarkets. The missus and I go there once a fortnight to stock trout and salmon; the prices are unbelievably cheap (£2.5 for 400g of fresh salmon for eg).

Great stuff.
