View Full Version : Help, how do I find a missing Rough green snake??
kittenta 08-09-2007, 14:44 It has mysteriously disappeared from it's home :suspect: and we can't find it :o. We have looked in all the nearby places, emptied the t.v unit, moved stuff and no sign of it, i'm going to cry, I don't even like them really :help::help:
Edited to add: it does however keep my mother away as she refuses to visit till it is found :hihi:
shihtzumad 08-09-2007, 15:49 have u checked down the suite, hope u find him
kittenta 08-09-2007, 16:16 If I find it personally, you'll hear me screaming in Rotherham :hihi:
pm carpetviper, he was talking about a trick with bottles to catch snakes.
Wait until he's hungry then sit very quietly with dinner out in his vivarium and the door open?

lol, u would me aswell, hope you find him soon
kittenta 09-09-2007, 07:56 Still no snake :( My lad is getting a bit upset now because he doesn't want it to die. I am just preparing myself for turning the whole house upside down. What I don't understand is that it has supposedly escaped TWICE out of a glass viv with no escape holes, all by itself :suspect: What a very clever snake
I think someone's telling porkies
I hope you find him for your son's sake - I agree ask CV he may have some ideas!
kittenta 09-09-2007, 08:57 Yes I will, problem is it eats live crickets so there is no chance of putting it's home on the floor with the door open :o
oh no! You'll be digging yourself far deeper there!!
hmmm tricky one!
kittenta 09-09-2007, 09:11 I already keep finding crickets on the floor and they are inside one tub that is inside another tub! Oh well, will keep searching! At least the house might look a tidier once i've found it :hihi:
kitty123 09-09-2007, 20:30 My aprtner had been worrying about you and your snake, you found it yet? Hope your son is ok.
ps Hattie get yummier each day:D:)
My garter snake used to do a bunk regularly from his home- he was a right little Houdini!
Thankfully, he was clever enough to get out and he was also clever enough to get back in again.

Aww, thankfully it isn't big enough to even attept to eat the kittys, or me! Bit worried about the hamster though :suspect: but being used to small crickets I think even Rosie the hammy is safe. My lad will be devastated if we don't find it or we don't find it in time :(
Don't forget we need regular piccies of the gorgeous Hattie ;)

Problem is, is that there is no possible way for it to get out unaided . I think he has gone in the viv and it has sneaked out through the door whilst he has had his head facing the t.v
Has he been found yet, Kittenta?
geckoqueen 11-09-2007, 21:21 Ours got out of a closed tank - our best guess he nudged the lid open (they're persistant when they want to be). Its firmly weighted now.
Try this info on traps: http://www.repticzone.com/forums/Lost-Escaped-Herps/messages/448160.html (not sure it'll work as well with live crickets)
nicolajw 11-09-2007, 22:40 Just thaught this might give you a shread of hope....We have an african king snake(6 ft long). She escaped under very mysterious circumstances as the viv was intact. My terrified 14 yr old slept at his nans whilst the rest of the family ript the house apart!Four days later, during I'm a celebrity get me out of here, she appeared from the T.V cabinet(even though this had been searched very thoroughly) during a task involving a tank of snakes! My son ran from the house screaming and swore he would never sleep again. He lied and I'm still having a hard time getting him up for school every am!
kittenta 13-09-2007, 21:18 Still no snake :( Not sure where to look anymore. I wonder if they can use cat flaps? :suspect: Not sure the neighbours would be impressed if it can :hihi:
warm places are a fave spot- under or behind the fridge (cos the motor tends to be warm), or behind the kitcehn or bathroom sink, where it might be cooler but more humid. Years ago my dad brought some eels home and (yuck) a couple of my mum was 'preparing' for dinner managed to make a bid for freedom. The cats found one (which we managed to get from them before they could kill it - I seem to recall asking if we could keep it as a pet but cant recall what the response was). Months later, we retrieved the dried up corpse of one from the gap between the sink n the fridge.
kittenta 14-09-2007, 21:13 And the snakey has returned!!! i spotted it right at the top of a window, wrapped around the catch waving about. It must have been enjoying the view.
shihtzumad 14-09-2007, 22:36 wow, bet you are relieved :) i would be :)
geckoqueen 15-09-2007, 10:13 That's great news!
kittenta 16-09-2007, 08:47 Yep, i'm really relieved!! Although it did escape again but only for an hour then DD spotted it hiding under a plant pot . It obviously can escape from it's viv, poor DS, we've had to put some screws in to wedge the wire holes shut!
They're tenacious wee beasties- my snake could escape his viv even with 50kg of dumbell weights on top of the lid, and he was small enough that he travelled in my handbag most of the time.
kitty123 16-09-2007, 17:52 So gl to hear you have found him safe been thinking of you:)
