View Full Version : Improvements to Chatsworth
ukstudent 08-01-2005, 12:39 Hi, I'm a travel and tourism student trying to do an assignment on Chatsworth House and attractions. I have to put some realistic improvements which could be made to improve Chatsworth. Would like to hear your opinions - only sensible ones please! Thanks

Wouldn't change one thing.
They could use it as a timeshare resort, or change it into flats and let them out to asylum seekers.
Apart from those I think it's perfect and long may it remain in it's present condition.

Bugger that idea !
cgksheff 08-01-2005, 16:18 So. Another scholar wanting us to do their coursework.
ukstudent, why not share your suggestions with us and let us comment on them for you. Share with us your interview with the Duchess of Devonshire.
Give a little and you might get a little.
designbunny 08-01-2005, 17:05 I would change the admission costs - its ridiculous, you even have to pay to use the kids play area.
They do hold some great events though, more of these would be good.
What ideas have you come up with?
Get some ideas by looking at Biltmore in North Carolina... they must have a website. It's a similar sort of place, but much more of a tourist aimed place. They have a big hotel built in a similar style to the house, maybe that would be a good idea for chatsworth to makes lots of money form the tourists.
A.B.Yaffle 08-01-2005, 18:41 My suggestion would be to reduce the admission charges.
.
dont be a pratt and start changing the thread,
chatsworth house is in the country,
ive been and yes it was expensive to get in and go round the gardens,
main thing id change is the carparking ,why not tarmac over the
whole gardens,to please our er "freinds" ,(the lack of smileys is killin me!)
JJ.. :-)

WallBuilder 09-01-2005, 10:06 Haven't been there in quite a long time but have always thought a stately home should have a maze in the grounds. Also as Chatsworth Park is so large it might be fun to have a miniture railway running around that could carry people.
The house being so big must have an awful lot of roomsnot used much how about opening a section up as a very up market B and B or a honeymoon suite and again the house and grounds would make a stunning backdrop for wedding photo's.

I'm not sure how long it's been there, but it does have a maze. :)
WallBuilder 09-01-2005, 10:30 I haven't been there for some 15 years but I don't remember a maze, where is it? Maybe it was there and I just didn't find it probably spent too much time dangling my feet in the water or looking at the weeping willow that actually weeps.
Just thought about another wheeze, why not have groups to go out and photograph those elusive deer that live in the grounds.

That certainly is the best way to shoot them. As I recall the maze is in the top right of the gardens, in relation to the house, but not exactly sure. Last time I went the maze was very busy, in particular with a group of American students. :)
i think the maze is the one with the statue at one end (?)
is it the one with the princess di fountain/pond in it ?
not shure but it didnt seem to be much of a maze when i visited,
took loads of pics though
love the bigg fountain :-)
JJ..
I believe there's a beautiful mural by Sheffield's own Brian Jackson there :D
And I'm not doing your homework either

There's definately a maze there and it's unmistakable when you find it. Its got a small tree in the centre of it.
I love the gardens at Chatsworth, I can walk round them for hours. Maybe I'm being a bit picky but I think it's a bit cheeky to have to pay for parking and then you pay again to go in the house or gardens. Although I know you can go to Chatsworth and just walk around the grounds without going in the gardens and that, so I guess they want some money from those people!

Ooh, you churlish old thing! if yer glass were half full you might well be pleased at the endorsement of this forum. If it's so active, useful and wide-ranging in its coverage that students take soundings within it then something is being done right.
Now remember to get out of bed on the other side tomorrow.

Now remember to get out of bed on the other side tomorrow. But too many students ask us questions and don't have the courtesy to actually contribute back. Thank you would be good. And an outline of which direction the work will actually go in.
Given the fact that we've taken an interest, it's just courtesy to provide the conclusion to the strory.
Hi, new member here! I've been a lurker for a while and thought it was about time I made a contribution.
I'm a student too (though I've lived & worked in Sheffield for over 7 years) and I'm currently doing a Masters course vaguely related to this one. I don't think the majority of students want others to do their homework for them, but with a lot of courses like this, it's necessary to get other people's opinions about improvements and new things they would like to see at attractions. After all, your own opinion isn't going to count for much given that somewhere like Chatsworth would need to be able to market any improvements to the public as a whole. I don't know if postings like this are the best way to go about it though because they don't produce particularly scientific results that you can use as evidence in an assignment. The best way is through user surveys, but these are a total nightmare as people never want to fill in your flippin' questionnaires!
I always get lost doing the walks and set off down the wrong tracks, the colours could do with a new lick of paint to match those on the map.
